.. that actually, my toddler and baby don't need fresh PJ's every day?

I complain about the amount of laundry all the time and have only just clocked that I control what the kids wear. They don't need fresh PJ's every day.

What have you realised recently that's actually common sense?

Thentherewascake · 18/12/2018 16:17

Just that if clothes look and smell clean they don’t automatically need to be washed just because they’ve been worn.

that's what I do for trousers and jumpers, but everything else is changed daily.

My kids can wear 3 or 4 sets of clothes a day! Uniform/ sport kit/ sometimes another activity set/ clean pjs. If this country wasn't in near-constant rain and the fields were less muddy, they would probably change less often.

Charlottejade89 · 18/12/2018 16:18

I try not to create too much washing, I wear bras, jeans and jumpers at least twice before washing and pjs for 2 or 3 nights. However my partner insists on putting everything in the wash every day which annoys the he'll out of me. His work t-shirts I don't mind because they do get sweaty but when he's worn a hoody and pair of jeans for a few hours sitting on the sofa....I sometimes take them out of the wash basket and put them back in the cupboard. He never notices lol. Baby has clean set of clothes and sleepsuits every day but she's very dribbly atm and we are starting to wean so quite often covered in food and/or drool.

starcrossedseahorse · 18/12/2018 16:37

I wash all underwear after one wear and that includes bras.

Kariana · 18/12/2018 17:01

When I was younger I was always told it's not good to have knickers on overnight as it's unhygienic. Apparently the area should be given time to breath and not be covered all the time. It does make sense if you think about it.

Nothisispatrick · 18/12/2018 17:18

Noooooo not the underwear overnight thing again! So many threads on it that go on for pages and pages.

FWIW I absolutely disagree that vaginas can breathe.

ALongHardWinter · 18/12/2018 17:26

I know someone who wears clean PJs EVERY SINGLE NIGHT,plus she showers every day. So not really necessary IMO. Just making extra washing for herself.

Mummadeeze · 18/12/2018 17:33

I have always washed my daughter’s pyjamas and clothes every day for 10 years. I just like her to have fresh clothes and pyjamas on every day! I hardly ever wash mine though!

Thentherewascake · 18/12/2018 17:33

and I know someone who wears clean UNDERWEAR every single day and she showers every day!

sockunicorn · 18/12/2018 17:41

i wash my DDs pjs and school uniform every day too.

mainly because im too lazy to see whats got stray pen or yogurt on it

nokidshere · 18/12/2018 17:52

School uniform needs to be clean daily with a teenager! Shower and clean clothes. They start to smell otherwise, all those hormones!

My teens get their clothes washed if they bring them down. Which means their clothes could be worn for a few hours or a few months between washes. Occasionally they will clear their floors and bring down a months worth in one go.

My youngest once took his uniform off on a Friday after a weeks wear, left it on his bedroom floor for nearly 3 weeks over Easter then put it back on to go back to school in.

Chocolateheaven123 · 18/12/2018 17:57

My son is nearly 2 and has a fresh change of PJs every day. He eats breakfast before getting dressed for the day and seems to always get messy after food, especially stuff like porridge. And he has a bath every night (only has bubble bath/shampoo twice a week unless he filthy after baking, arts + crafts, etc) as he LOVES it. When he knows its bath time, he tries to clamber in with his clothes still on Grin

I only wash other clothes if it really needs it though.

SerenDippitty · 18/12/2018 18:13

I wash all underwear after one wear and that includes bras.

Don’t you find it ruins the bras though?

starcrossedseahorse · 18/12/2018 19:30

Nope. I handwash them each evening. Takes me 5 mins.

SerenDippitty · 18/12/2018 19:35

Oh sorry thought you were putting them in the machine.

starcrossedseahorse · 18/12/2018 19:37

I do if they are sports bras but the underwired ones I do by hand.

Thentherewascake · 18/12/2018 19:49

I wash all my bras on a delicate cycle, they are completely fine. I put them in one of these nest things, no idea if they do anything but even my nicest bras are as good as new.

ArcheryAnnie · 18/12/2018 23:53

Because we knew that the uniform needed to look smart, we were careful to stay clean, and got changed straight after school.

This is what my teenager does. Clean shirt every day (because the neck and cuffs are black) but the rest is taken off and hung up properly as soon as he comes in, and he's in a tshirt and joggers.

ihopeyouwitchesareready · 19/12/2018 00:01

apart from coats and jackets i wash everything after each wear and also wash towels after one use aswell.

PodgeBod · 19/12/2018 00:17

My kids (2&3) spill a generous amount of breakfast on themselves every morning. So it's either feed them in their PJs and wash them, feed them naked and wipe them down or feed them in their clothes and have them filthy for the rest of the day. Feeding in PJs and cleaning is usually the easiest option. Plus, I bath them most nights and don't like to put unclean clothes on after a bath.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 19/12/2018 00:37

I'm team scuzz, I think. I haven't worn bed clothes since I was a teenager but I definitely used to have a nightie 5 days-to a week. I also double wear clothes as much as I can - although clean knickers and tights every day- and round the house scruffs will do two or three days before a wash unless they get messed up . I always double wore uniform at school & was encouraged to get changed asap at home to keep it nice and still do; when I worked in retail and had an allowance to buy "uniform" with, double wearing let me keep up with the laundry & not go over limit "buying" uniform and having to pay. No one has ever complained that I smell!

Bras get changed every 3 days or so, hand washed and then spun in a bra bag, sheets once a fortnight (but I shower before bed) and towels weekly, face cloth & tea towel change every other day and wash a weeks worth all together. I do iron my sheets, tea towels and face cloths though. Is there a team for being scuzzy but still fussy about ironing?

AhhhhThatsBass · 19/12/2018 00:37

I’m either lazy or scummy if this threat is anything to go by. Sheets get washed every two weeks, child gets a bath a couple of times a week and PJs get changed whenever I think about it, probably twice a week at most. And although I change her uniform most days, it’s purely because it tends to get dirty daily, if it isn’t, I leave it on until it does get dirty. I have also never ironed uniform.
—Also, I don’t know what zoflora is. People on mumsnet seem to talk about it regularly—

Beebee8 · 19/12/2018 00:47

If you need to clean your towel after one use you're not washing properly.

Bluebonnieblue · 19/12/2018 06:10

Blimey. I agree with the pp who said she does chores only when they need doing. I'm not lifting a finger unless it's necessary! Grin

Bluebonnieblue · 19/12/2018 06:10

Ps, also no clue what zoflora is

ArcheryAnnie · 19/12/2018 08:32

If you need to clean your towel after one use you're not washing properly.

This. Towels are there to dry bodies that have just been cleaned, not to act as giant washcloths.

(Also if you wash it after every use, it'll get thin and unfluffy much, much quicker.)
