Not really AIBU but I needed the traffic and didn't know where else to go.

I've got sinusitis and had to go OOH on Sat evening, was in A&E with my daughter last night with a stupidly high temp. We're now home and she's bright and it's come right down.
Nobodies had any sleep in this house for over a week.

But I stood on a fecking smashed bauble yesterday and got a great big bit of glass stuck in my toe. No car so couldn't go anywhere even if I wanted to and obviously it wasn't a emergency so just thought I'd wash and dress myself. I think I got it all out but I did yank pretty quickly as I was trying to keep DD away and not get blood on EVERYTHING. I definitely got the visible glass.

I put on an iodine dressing and changed this morning and it all looks clean and ok. But it's so painful if I try and put any pressure on it on the ground. Is this just normal for a deep cut? It bled a lot. Or does this sound like there might still be some glass in there as my DM is suggesting?

I am just so sick of being in the doctors/ a&e / urgent care / walk in. It's been one of those months.

AIBU just to keep on keeping an eye myself? Or do I have to go get it checked out.

Afraid only an xray will give you an answer.

DameFanny · 17/12/2018 14:44

If there's something still in there the pain will get more intense over time - especially if it works its way to one of the bones. You might want to just get it over with and see someone - can you leave your dd with your dm? And load up on snacks and good reading, make a day out of it..?!

ichifanny · 17/12/2018 14:46

If it was a clean cut I’d imagine the pain would subside there’s a good chance there is still a foreign body there , is it red and irritated or any pus or heat ?

fedupsville · 17/12/2018 15:13

@CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger would an X-ray show glass? I didn't think it would, maybe that's just me being daft though.

@DameFanny the pain has got a little better since yesterday but still very painful. Sad

@ichifanny no there's no pus or sign of infection, I have a picture of when I first did it and had cleaned it up, it looks no worse now, apart from the edges have gone a bit white from me keeping it covered over and moist I would imagine.

But I hear you all, need to get it checked out. Sad

Sorry for the yucky grubby foot pic.

Don’t be worried about the amount of bloody - hands and feet always bleed a lot! Looks so sore but looks like you did a good job, you’re so brave getting the glass out yourself haha. Would recommend going to a doctor, don’t chemists also see minor stuff as well? Might be worth asking them if you don’t want to go hospital / doctors

Isleepinahedgefund · 17/12/2018 15:52

For so many reasons, you really need that looked at. It’s a deep cut for one, might have glass in for another. Might have damaged nerves. Might need some stitches. Remember, your feet are very important (the phrase “no foot, no horse” comes to mind!) and your big toe especially so.

A friend of mine had to have surgery to have a cocktail stick removed from her foot not so long ago.

PurpleWithRed · 17/12/2018 15:56

Hate to say it but glass in a cut = X-ray. Do you have an urgent care centre nearby you can go to? or minor injuries or whatever it's called nowadays?

Wolfiefan · 17/12/2018 15:57

Many years ago I fell on Christmas Eve. I was sober! Didn’t want to go to A and E at Christmas. Had looked like DS could be in for Christmas and we had only just found out he was well enough to stay home.
Four weeks later I found out it was a break. Bit late by then. Go!

MumW · 17/12/2018 16:02

It would make sense to get it checked out.
Look at it this way, if there is still glass in there, then your body is going to react to try and push it out, it could well get infected and you could end up in A&E over Xmas itself.

fedupsville · 17/12/2018 16:04

We do, it's just awkward as it is for everybody with kids with my daughter, especially as she was out all night last night. I can sort something though, will definitely get it looked at. Thanks all

Coincidently I stood on a cocktail stick when I was a kid @Isleepinahedgefund Blush

Update is this.

Gas and air and local to make the wound made bigger and get it out. Was horrible but it's over now.

Thanks for your help all, here's hoping I can walk on it and get a shoe on this time next week Xmas Sad

I fell Saturday night leaving the pub- honestly it was the pot holes fault!! Finally went to A&E today- fractured bones in my foot and a small fracture in my wrist 🤦‍♀️

Wolfiefan · 18/12/2018 15:34

So glad you got it looked at. Heal soon. Flowers

RB68 · 18/12/2018 15:35

Nasty but best safe than sorry with glass - glass you all sorted - should heal up nicely now! Hope you managed a snooze now!

fedupsville · 18/12/2018 16:54

@loubluee wish I could blame mine on alcohol to be honest. I can't remember the last time I had a drink. And because I'm on antibiotics for sinusitis I can't even have oneSad hope your healing soon!

@Wolfiefan Thank you.Smile

@RB68 Thank you, I may have gone to my mums on the way home and snuck an hour in Grin

HA - I like your style

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 18/12/2018 17:34

Sorry - only saw you asked me a question! Bloody useless aren't I. Obvs you now know that yes, you can see glass on an xray :)

Sounds painful but glad they got it sorted sharpish ('scuse the pun). DD did something similar last summer but it was a stone she got wedged in her foot on the beach, gas and air and a scalpel and job's a goodun.

fedupsville · 18/12/2018 17:48

@CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger no worries! Learn something new every day!

Thanks, it was bloody painful, but I'm glad it's sorted too. Smile
