Looking to take DP, and our 2 children (7 years and 8 weeks) away for a weekend somewhere in the uk early January.

AIBU to think I can do this on £300 ish? That would be just for accommodation. It'd be Friday- Sunday.

Any suggestions? It's for DP's birthday. Or am I being totally unrealistic? Not looking for anything fancy or to go abroad etc...

Superbreak gave good deals where you can get accommodation in Nice hotels at a fraction of the price and you can get rail travel included. We're going to London next week with them. Used them before and they are really good. They've got a lot of offers on at the moment for Jan and Feb so might be worth a look. Have a fab time wherever you go! X

You can definitely get accommodationfor 2 nights for £300. I’d recommend having a look at booking.com and seeing what comes up. I stayed in a uk city a few weeks ago 2 adults and 1 child for £70 per night! A holiday inn express with breakfast included. Small and simple room but fine for sleeping. And just came back from 2 nights in Belgium 2 adults and 2 children for £300 including breakfast and in city centre. What kind of holiday are you looking for? City break/country break, etc?

I was going to suggest air bnb as well. We’ve stayed in some amazing places over the years. We much prefer having the option to self cater or choose to go out for meals rather than having to eat out all the time.

Keel · 18/12/2018 07:05

Silly typos. Have and not gave and nice hotels not hotels in Nice France although I'm sure you can get deals for there!

Also had some cracking trips with airbnb. Stayed in some beautiful farm cottages.

You will easily get a two bedroom cottage for a weekend for that, in January the prices are very reasonable. You could get one through a cottage rental company or Air B&B. Depends if you feel you want somewhere with entertainment for the kids (caravan park etc) or if you're happy with a cottage by the sea.

This would work out at just under £400 but includes all meals plus all the onsite activities, and it’s fab! We’ve been here many times.

We often stay in a premier inn if we want a couple of nights away. We went to London at half-term for £150 plusextra forbreakfast.

A couple of years ago we stayed in a novotel in Cardiff t feb half term for £170 for 2 nights. Hotelhad a swimming pool which was great.

Error Ive always wanted to stay there! Lots of friends have but our budget is smaller than OPs! January is their cheapest time i think (my dad goes...)

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 18/12/2018 07:28

..and is a fab place to go in January because so much is onsite and included... def one to consider OP!

froomeonthebroom · 18/12/2018 07:32

Are the sun £9.50 holidays on soon? We used to do this when the kids were little. You can get a 2 bedroom caravan on a haven site with entertainment passes for under £100.

Have a look on money saving expert. There's always a thread a about this.

bonfireheart · 18/12/2018 08:39

we would have to sit in the room in the dark for 2 hours while she naps
This is a MN thing. No one I know in real life does it.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 18/12/2018 08:51

I was wondering about that. Surely if you're out for the day fhey have a nap in a buggy?

Callistaal · 18/12/2018 09:17

There's a website called AffordAbroad where their team find people very cheap holidays. Might be worth a look.
