To be annoyed when DH sits on the sofa wrong?

I love DH but he always sits on the sofa wrong
He leans on the back cushions which is making them misshapen
He has offered to re-plump them after he uses the sofa but I think it's ruining the cushion
AIBU??

This made laugh out loud! This is exactly what my DH does and it drives me insane, next sofa we get will have cushions attached to the back of the sofa!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/12/2018 21:24

My DH uses knives and forks wrong. He scrapes the cutlery along the plate soooo noisily it makes me want to smack him.

GummyGoddess · 16/12/2018 21:27

Yes, they are to be sat on. But they're not comfortable for long with DH ruining them! If he took a bit more care they would be comfortable for longer as well as looking nice.

Also he does sit on the scatter cushions too. Thankfully they're feather filled so can't be squashed out of shape like the foam seat cushions.

DoinItForTheKids · 16/12/2018 21:28

Oh god my daughter (16) does this with cushions (not the back ones of the sofa but loose cushions) and with pillows - it drives me bloody mad! All you have to do is as you sit down, you just slightly pull it up so that it doesn't roll down and then get squashed out of shape.

OP, I feel your pain. He'd rather pay out for a new sofa instead of just unjamming it before he sits down - it's hardly the task of the century is it, only takes about 5 seconds.

LittleMe03 · 16/12/2018 21:29

He is very unreasonable to have married you

Dippysnowoman · 16/12/2018 21:30

Yanbu. My Dp does this or rather did til we got our new furniture and he has his own armchair. My sofa looks great now Smile

TokyoSushi · 16/12/2018 21:31

I get it. We've just ordered new sofas and DH was sitting on it wrong in the shop, squashing the back cushion out of shape. I know it's going to irritate me, I don't know why we've ordered them!

WomanOfTime · 16/12/2018 21:32

YANBU. My brother used to lie on the couch and put his feet on the top of the back cushion and crush it (and swear at me if I asked him not to, but that's something else...). It's definitely irritating when people wreck the cushions.

GummyGoddess · 16/12/2018 21:35

@bellie710 Mine ARE attached to the back. It just causes an even more pronounced dent as the zip holds them in place so the centre is dragged the most. At least if they weren't attached it might be a more even squashing.

He's down there now, squashing the scatter cushions, bum on the edge of one particular cushion and pulling down the back of one section.

ironinglady57 · 16/12/2018 21:35

Yanbu. I have the same problem!

Pickapony · 16/12/2018 21:35

LTB and log it with 101

topcat2014 · 16/12/2018 21:38

I can't sit on a sofa with additional scatter cushions, I don't fit - so have to chuck them off.

BouleBaker · 16/12/2018 21:43

I give you this. By the end of each and every evening his side of the sofa looks more like a dog bed than a sofa.

To be annoyed when DH sits on the sofa wrong?
DaffydownClock · 16/12/2018 21:43

Remove all the cushions before he sits down? My mother's friend would do this and get out the vacuum cleaner and hoover around them as they drank their cup of tea.

ChesterGreySideboard · 16/12/2018 21:44

My sofa has solid type cushions rather than squishy ones so that’s not a problem.

But, DH has a problem sleeping (something to do with me snoring like an ancient warthog), and will often go and sleep on the sofa. I get so cross with this. Why sleep on something I can’t wash? And he uses my lovely wool blanket as a cover.
There is a perfectly serviceable king sized bed, fully made up, in the other bedroom. But no. He’s going to sleep and dribble all over the sofa.

Lweji · 16/12/2018 21:48

My DS puts his legs up the back of our main sofa and it's ruining it. [grr]

I get you, OP.

TwinMummy1510 · 16/12/2018 21:48

Sofas are supposed to be comfy areas for the family to relax in, no? I couldn't give less of a shit how my OH sits, as long as they feel comfy and relaxed. No, I don't squish the cushions unevenly myself - but let the guy be. If you can't just slob out in your own home it's a pretty sad state of affairs. I'd hate to have to be thinking about the correct way to sit when I'm in my own home.

My mind is actually blown that this is a thing......

nocoolnamesleft · 16/12/2018 21:48

YABU. You've clearly purchased a trendy sofa with too low a back. I suspect he's taller than you?

HarryTheSteppenwolf · 16/12/2018 21:51

OP seems to have disappeared.

She'll be busy polishing the potatoes.

Yabbers · 16/12/2018 21:52

GummyGoddess

Don’t do that, don’t tell guests how they should sit, that’s just rude.

waxy1 · 16/12/2018 22:01

I told the doctor I feel that I am really a dog.

“Lie on the couch,” he said.

“I’m not allowed on the couch.”

BiscuitsWithEverythingPlease · 16/12/2018 22:01

My DH puts his knee onto the sofa seat first then twists to sit down, keeping knees on the sofa. The cushion is flattened and it drives me mad, but I have my own chair so don't sit on the sofa! As long as he is comfy, I don't mind until he nods off and starts bloody snoring! Grin

Dongdingdong · 16/12/2018 22:03

My DH is exactly the same OP. I just periodically reshape the sofa cushions when I’m cleaning the lounge!

SleepySofa · 16/12/2018 22:05

OP seems to have disappeared

There was literally less than 15 minutes between the OP and that comment. I hate it when people expect the OP to be posting every 2 minutes, people have lives you know!

Anyway, OP, I thought YABU until I saw the photo BouleBaker posted, and I realised I’d have to kill DP if he did that, so if that’s what you mean, YANBU.
