Birthday gift

Just received a parcel in post from an old friend for a big birthday. It is a bracelet that is not to my taste from an independent jewellery shop that is 400 miles from me. It cost quite a bit of money. AIBU to tell her that I don’t like it so that she could exchange it. If it was a £20 gift I would keep quiet but this is worth over £200! I don’t want to hurt her feelings but this is a lot of money on something I wouldn’t wear but she would not know that I won’t wear it as we only see each other once a year or so.

I don’t think there is a way you can say this without sounding rude, ungrateful and hurtful towards your friend.

Why don’t you just contact the jeweller direct about an exchange?
