Is drinking alone really that bad?

Day to myself, I'm at home fire on, wrapped in blanket, reading my favourite book, nibbles to the left of me, wine to the right. Periodically watching rain out of window. Realising I'm feeling decidedly squiffy and a fair bit most of the bottle had gone. But have had such a lovely, content, relaxing afternoon.
I'm absolutely going to finish the bottle (guidelines say I'm a binge drinker). Drinking alone (some would say that's indicative of an alcohol problem)
I think I've just had a lovely relaxing peaceful afternoon
AIBU? (And can I open a second bottle Grin)

I’d do the same as you and really enjoy itWine

Drinking alone now and then, doesn't automatically indicate a drink problem any more than drinking during the day does.

Only you know how often you do it and whether you have a problem.

Personally I cant' drink during the day as for some reason it just doesn't agree with me.

At night I could drink just under a bottle, although my head would be splitting in the morning.

As long as it's not every day I wouldn't give it a second thought. Open another bottle and make the most of it 😁

I had the tv to myself last night as DH wasn’t home. I rarely get the tv to myself and it was so lovely and peaceful that I had a big glass of wine and enjoyed my solo time Smile

Haven't had a 'day drink' for quite some time. Have a feeling I'll be asleep by 8 but in a good squiffy haze at the moment!

I'd say it's one of those rules of thumb to stop you sliding into bad habits. It can be easy to slip from a glass a night to a bottle a night. For me drinking is social so I rarely do it alone, but very occasionally I might make a martini or a G&T to have in front of the TV. Especially if you live alone/don't have anyone to drink with that seems perfectly reasonable to me.

ForalltheSaints · 15/12/2018 16:05

If you are over the drink-driving limit the following morning, or it becomes a regular thing, then yes. On the odd occasion, no.

Wolfiefan · 15/12/2018 16:10

I would be more worried about the fact you’re binge drinking. A whole bottle and considering opening a second?
I often have a glass or two whilst watching TV on my own.

Babdoc · 15/12/2018 16:10

I live alone, and don’t see why I should be denied a small glass of wine with my dinner!
I think it rather depends on whether you are in control of the drink or the other way round, OP. If you can’t stop until the bottle’s finished, and you’re knocking back excessive units per week, then yes, you have a problem, and your liver would like you to seek help before cirrhosis ensues! If not, crack on and enjoy a modest tipple.

Pinkginxx · 15/12/2018 16:11

I'm definitely squiffy as where I live it's the beginning of a good storm. So am looking out of window, whilst still wrapped in blanket, glugging the wine and contemplating life.
Pretty sure if I had an alcohol problem I wouldn't be this leightweight. ''Tis lovely though. Feel at peace with the world.

In the run up to Christmas I will be indulging in Bailey's in my coffee while I wrap the presents.

I'm the only adult living in my house. Should I really have to invite someone round in order to justify having an occasional drink?

recklessruby · 15/12/2018 16:13

Enjoy it. Sounds like a lovely afternoon.
I often have a few glasses of wine alone at home after work on a Friday night.
It's lovely when everyone else is away and I have a good book too.

MrsCar · 15/12/2018 16:14

It's almost Christmas OP, drink up Smile
