To think that Christmas jumper days really aren't a great way of raising money for charity?

It was Christmas jumper day in work today, in aid of Save the Children. I don't own a Christmas jumper so didn't wear one, but I did make a donation.

A couple of other colleagues told me that they had especially gone out to buy Christmas jumpers because it was important to make an effort. However, they did not contribute any donations.

AIBU to think that wearing a Christmas jumper helps nobody, and that the charity would have benefited a whole lot more if everyone had just donated their jumper money instead?

I know it's supposed to be a bit of fun, and that the idea is to raise awareness, and if people are planning to buy a Christmas jumper anyway, then fair enough. However, people should surely realise that donning a particular item of clothing doesn't really help anyone!

I get your point. £20 or so on a jumper probably made by some poor sole in a sweatshop who is paid pennies to donate £1 to a charity where 1p goes to help, the rest is invested in arms deals etc that causes the sweatshop people further danger. There are a few people that benefit from these but none are the people that need it. Capitalism don’t ya just love it.

I was having this exact grumble the other day. If I go to Primark I can buy a rank jumper I'll never wear again for maybe £10, then bring in my donation. It makes so much more sense to just give that £10 to charity! Also I despise forced fun Xmas Angry I find Christmas jumpers about as hilarious as herpes

The charity shops round my area are full of Christmas jumpers at the end of November start of December so I don't think I'll ever need to buy new for the children.

I have two Christmas jumpers that were gifts that come out every year so I'll never have to buy another. It doesn't have to be expensive.
