Specifically there’s a lady I know through a friend who has always had moderate acne the whole time I’ve known her. It’s cleared up lately and she looks radiant and im desperate to know her secret but I know it’s be so bloody rude of me!

So im going to ask on here instead - how did you get rid of adult acne?
I’ve just started my second round of roaccutane. I bailed on the first round and only did three months so sadly the effects didn’t last long. I’m hoping to stick it out this time but I’m only on a low dose and worried it’s not going to be a permenant cure. That said I’m reluctant to up the dose as I’m scared of the side effects.

Polyethyl - I don’t think I’ll be able to
Move to the dessert any time soon haha! Wonder if the sun permenantly xhanged your oil glands or something in the same way as I think some laser treatments work.

Userme18 I was on a 20mg dose last time which then went up to 30mg. I can’t remember exactly how long I toppled it but I did end the course early as the dry eyes were really causing me problems and I was getting worried about my eyesight!

stopgap can you tell me more about insolitol? Where do you get it from, how does it work and how much do you take? Sounds interesting and worth a try!

Having babies solved it for me, and probably the pill, not being too thin. I still have oily skin so dont think it's anything to do with that, its all hormones, probably an imbalance of oestrogen/testosterone. Staying away from low fat dairy too.

Justmemyselfandi999 · 27/12/2018 12:18

Course of Roaccutane years ago really helped, was still prone to flares but nowhere near as bad. Have followed a vegan diet for 5 years now and not had one breakout since.

EmeraldShamrock · 27/12/2018 12:19

Face peeling treatments. A friend has had a course of 3 and it has made a huge difference.
Reduce sugary foods too.

I did dianette for a while when about 17/18, it cleared everything up but come back when stopped but not as bad. I think only pregnancy cured me completely.

Raisinbrain · 27/12/2018 12:26

My husband had roaccutane about 8 years ago and has been clear ever since.

Sulphur soap. It's incredible. And very cheap. You can get it on amazon.

I have acne rosacea and it's the only thing I use to clean my skin.

Troton · 27/12/2018 21:19

trying2bemum - I tried sulphur soap once - it was sooooo drying! My face was peeling off! I don’t seem to be able to use a moisturiser it always seems to make my spots worse and I’ve tried several which say they are oil free etc
Which soap do you use?

Its very drying but it does the trick. Moisturiser shouldn't cause spots. Try and stick with the sulphur soap for a few weeks.

I've bought one called Keep It Clean one - 10% sulphur. It's got about 250 reviews about how effective it is for acne!

Trying2bemum · 28/12/2018 17:49

On Amazon sorry!

Troton · 28/12/2018 18:10

Trying2bemum - thank you going to look into that then!
Do you use a moisturiser with it and could I ask which one if so?

OP posts:
Trying2bemum · 29/12/2018 17:07

I use Clarins Gentle Day cream 👍🏼

Troton · 29/12/2018 17:38

Fab thank you I’ll try that

Following as I am a failed Roaccutane patient. I needed careful monitoring and was only allowed a half dose as I have high cholesterol. It helped a bit at the time but didn't cure it and a few months after stopping the treatment my spots returned.

I have very oily skin and redness but also dryness too.

I had success many years ago with Dianette but the GP refused to prescribe me it again recently as I'm overweight and it's apparently linked as higher risk for blood clots.

Trying2bemum · 29/12/2018 17:52

I know 🙈

To be honest any good moisturiser would do. I like Simple stuff too. Just needs to be really moisturising as the sulphur is so drying

minipie · 29/12/2018 20:22

CallMeRachel - do ask to try Spironolactone, you sound like the right sort of candidate for it. If you can’t have Dianette I believe Yasmin is next best.

Also a shout out for Epiduo cream - benzoyl peroxide plus retinoid. Most effective topical solution I tried. (I tried a lot).
