Lighthearted Post for fun!

Was having a conversation with my teenager yesterday who was talking about his friend who's birthday is 31st December.

He says it's weird as he can never say his birthday would be 'next year' as it would always be 'this year' and on the day itself it would be 'today'.

It has actually blown my mind and I can't stop thinking about it.

Promise I'll start getting out more 🤣

Does anyone have other similar things/stories that they can't get their head around?!

Run that by me again

Amrapaali · 14/12/2018 12:41

Yeah I ddint get it either

Skyejuly · 14/12/2018 12:41

Wow that hurts my head

LoudBatPerson · 14/12/2018 12:41

I never actually thought of that, but he is certainly right. One of the quirks of being a NYE baby.

PurpleKittyKnitting · 14/12/2018 12:42

My daughter says the the same...her birthday is 1Jan

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 14/12/2018 12:42

That is amusing!

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 14/12/2018 12:42

Ha! Never thought about that before. That's pretty cool.

chunkyjumper · 14/12/2018 12:43

It hurt my head too. I repeated it to my mum who didn't get it either.
Makes sense though!

I get you, but don't believe you ...he could say today for example, when I am older, not this years birthday but next years I want to do x for my birthday... tell that to your son

PunishmentSnart · 14/12/2018 12:43

So coz im 1st Jan my birthday is always next year?!

Neverunderfed · 14/12/2018 12:44

How true!

Amrapaali · 14/12/2018 12:44

Ah okay got it Grin let's say your birthday is just done anf dusted on maybe 15th March. If someone asks uoi on the 17th when your next birthday is you can always say "Next year".

Doesn't happen for 31st dec. Clever

Toooldtocareanymore · 14/12/2018 12:45

so purple kitty its reverse for your DD she can never say this years birthday as its either today or next year...

Toooldtocareanymore · 14/12/2018 12:46

except she can in the past tense so for this years birthday I got x..

DianaT1969 · 14/12/2018 12:47

It took a while, but I got there in the end. There is no space between his birthday and next year. Wheras I can have a birthday in August. Between Aug-end Dec, people ask me when's my birthday, I can say it's next year. He can't. Hmmmm

user1494670108 · 14/12/2018 12:47

My Birthday is NYE and I've never thought of that!!
My husband dos always turn around just after midnight and say next year you'll be xxplus two years old. So on what felt like my 48th birthday (still up so still my bday) I got told, net year you'll be 50!

Birdie6 · 14/12/2018 12:47

Surely his birthday this year is on 31st Dec 2018, and his birthday next year is 31st Dec 2019. No different from anyone else's birthday. He still has one every year like you and me. And when it's his birthday it's "today", well yes but that applies to everyone. I don't get why this is strange or weird.

GraceMarks · 14/12/2018 12:48

Yes, but it will always be his birthday next year as well as this year. Presumably it will be his birthday every year, barring the obvious limitations.

jessstan2 · 14/12/2018 12:51

My birthday is 31st December. On 1st January I can truthfully say that next year I will be two years older!

PurpleKittyKnitting · 14/12/2018 12:51

Yeah, I got mixed up with what she said!

caesio · 14/12/2018 12:53

Ooh my niece has a 31 Dec bday. Will try that out when everyone is here over Christmas.

chunkyjumper · 14/12/2018 12:56

Can only apply to his NEXT birthday I suppose.
Have never thought about the two years older thing before, that’s funny!

Good thing about being a new year's eve baby - there are loads of parties to go to! Everyone is celebrating.

user1473878824 · 14/12/2018 13:14

@Birdie6 his birthday is this year or today, never next year.

thecatsthecats · 14/12/2018 13:16

If people ask me when my birthday is, I, you know, tell them the date?

They're not asking whether it's in this year or the next, so why would I tell them?
