My oldest is turning 7 in January. Obviously that’s very soon after Christmas so there isn’t usually a lot he wants, and definitely not a lot he needs.
I’ve suggested to his Dad that we decorate his room. We moved in the summer and haven’t done much to the house.
Would it be unreasonable of me to ask people for contributions towards that if they ask what to get him? Or maybe ask them to buy a specific thing?
I don’t want them to think we are asking for it just to get a room done up 😂

That's perfectly acceptable. Sounds like a good plan.

You sound like my dh last year. Our son's birthday is the end of Dec. He wanted a new cabin bed and that was my husband's suggestion. We bought the bed ourselves in the end but it's not a bad idea. You could ask for a funky lamp, canvas print etc.
