At work the other day, was told that an exclamation mark was now called a 'pling'. Now every time I see or use it I am reminded of the silly renaming and for an unknown reason it is bugging the hell out of me! Grrrrr!

Gusset - just sounds so 🤮

IAmNotLikeThat · 14/12/2018 07:05

Haven’t read the full thread as it’s a bit long. No advice but I hope someone comes along later with more knowledge than me. Flowers

Shockers · 14/12/2018 07:06

Gotten.

Them, in place of those (looking at you DH).

Candy- it just sounds wrong!

RedForShort · 14/12/2018 07:08

Gees IAmNotLikeThat, you could have tried, it’s not like it’s a particularly long thread!

I dislike ‘pop’ as a verb. Though I can live with hearing it, it just makes me think of the user as overly twee.

TORDEVAN · 14/12/2018 07:11

'Fab' - reminds me of 2 people I'd much rather forget

loubluee · 14/12/2018 07:18

When people use the word ‘dump’ or ‘shit’ to describe having a poo. It’s makes me cringe so much.

noenergy · 14/12/2018 07:18

Hun. Absolutely hate it, makes me cringe

madeyemoodysmum · 14/12/2018 07:30

Anyhoo
My bad

KitschBitch · 14/12/2018 07:32

RedForShort my friend described my gorgeous new coat as 'twee', now I'll have to send it back. Angry

I can't stand the word 'naice', it is such an ugly sounding word and yet it isn't even a proper word!

Jimdandy · 14/12/2018 07:37

@loubluee I hate the word poo!

We say going for a “bob” but I’m told that’s a local word!

Lunaballoon · 14/12/2018 07:38

Old gimmer. I’ve only ever seen it on MN, never actually heard it in real life, thank goodness.

ChocolateTearDrops · 14/12/2018 07:40

Any swear word aimed directly at someone's own (usually preschool) child.

I swear. Usually at inanimate items (why do door handles grab my clothes?) Children need guidance not verbal abuse.

loubluee · 14/12/2018 07:40

Jimdandy I actually like that- ‘Bob’ except I know a Bob, so don’t know how it would sound in practice lol

pinkdelight · 14/12/2018 07:41

Yes madeye those both make me cringe!

I also have a deep aversion to a foetus being called a "bean". Likewise to a clitoris being called a "bean" (as in flicking the...). And certainly it can't be both. Ugh!

tillytrotter1 · 14/12/2018 07:45

I thought 'naice' was a typo at first!
Gotten is an English word that we shortened over the years but the Americans didn't and it's bounced back, like many words that are disliked.
I dislike how nouns have been changed by adding ing, birthing, gifting parenting etc., seems pointless.
I dislike the casual use of some really foul swear words on here, if people can write them so easily I'm sure they are verbalised too and in front of children. Were a male to use these words to a female I think some would be offended yet here it's not only acceptable but seems to be expected.

Purplehammer · 14/12/2018 07:58

Tummy
Sibling
Parenting

DeepanKrispanEven · 14/12/2018 08:04

Reach out when people mean "contact" or "talk to".

Cleanse. It sounds horribly unctuous, and clean is just as good.

weleasewoderick22 · 14/12/2018 08:07

Belly. It makes me stabby 😡

SalemBlackCat4 · 14/12/2018 08:11

twee - It sounds so ridiculous and something like a 4 year old girl would say. I still don't even know what it means after being on here for around 2 years.

Fancy - fancy means elaborate, ornate. It shouldn't be used to mean like.

Horrid instead of horrible. Was shocked that horrid was still in use when I came on here. Same as fancy, they both sound like they come from an Enid Blyton book.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 14/12/2018 08:13

Moist and lush 🤢 makes me cringe

Christmasgone2018 · 14/12/2018 08:15

Yes yes to
Reach out
Gotten
Anyhoo
Belly
Pee ( instead of wee)

RedForShort · 14/12/2018 08:19

No you don't KitschBitch. She didn't say overtly twee.

Bit of a odd compliment though! Unless she was four of course (Wink SalemBlackCat4)

Squatternutbosh123 · 14/12/2018 08:20

Anything ending in 'bobs' so Holibobs, wellybobs etc.

When someone refers to knickers as knicks...just why?

Panties

Basically

Literally...always used incorrectly
