To shit my pants because my house is haunted

Baby daughter asleep in her cot, DH asleep in bed. I'm wide awake (insomnia strikes again), so thought I'd curl up on the couch and read 50 shades of grey a very interesting book.

All of a sudden there was a loud knock on the window. It was about 3 knocks and definitely sounded like a knock and not something hitting it. I immediately went to the front door and no one was there. Neighbours car is gone from the shared drive so they're out meaning it wasn't them, and the whole street was deserted. Not a soul in sight.

Go back into the living room to find the Christmas tree lights on. They were definitely off before. AIBU to call a priest after changing my clothes from shitting myself?

Lighthearted! I'm not gunna call the priest and I didn't literally have a poo 😂. Also don't think it's a genuine haunting - I'm not a believer in ghosts! Just find it weird and want to share my experience! Has anyone ever had something freaky like this happen to them?

I don't know about a preist but I'd be more inclined to be calling the police.

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 14/12/2018 01:19

@LEMtheoriginal

Definitely not a break-in. I didn't leave my front door for someone to sneak past. All windows and back door is locked. I searched the flat and made sure everything was still locked. It was! DD has her baby monitor on and no sounds are coming through.

Grin

Definitely a ghost then!

JaneJeffer · 14/12/2018 01:24

I'd get a new set of lights if I was you!

BoebePhuffay · 14/12/2018 01:26

Well it’s not so go and change your pants, unplug your plug lights and then go to bed.

BoebePhuffay · 14/12/2018 01:26

Plug lights= Xmas lights

TheRealJoseph · 14/12/2018 01:29

Some people believe that "3 knocks" foretells a death.

AimlesslyPurposeful · 14/12/2018 01:33

“Some people believe that "3 knocks" foretells a death.”

Bet that’s reassuring OP.

That should help you get right off to sleep.

TheRealJoseph · 14/12/2018 01:36

What else should I say?:- "Oh don't worry, it's just the house playing silly buggers?"

Lovingbenidorm · 14/12/2018 01:38

I think because you were reading a total pile of shite your brain rebelled.
There you are, comfy on the sofa and your grey cells have gone into meltdown because they are being asked to rationalise a great big steaming heap of absolute bollocks.
Therefore, you see and hear things that aren’t real.
It’s a little like thinking The Mail is a newspaper

JaneJeffer · 14/12/2018 01:39

Once I stayed up late watching a scary film when there was a knock on the window. I nearly had a heart attack. It was my DB, who saw the light on, on his way home from the pub. I gave him an earful!

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 14/12/2018 01:40

'Bet that’s reassuring OP.'

Insomnia or not, definitely not sleeping tonight Grin

'What else should I say?:- "Oh don't worry, it's just the house playing silly buggers?"'

I sure hope it's just that 😳😳

What else should I say?

Nothing?

TheRealJoseph · 14/12/2018 01:43

Ok ok, I could've phrased it a bit better & gave lots of links etc etc. sorry.

JaneJeffer · 14/12/2018 01:47

TheRealJoseph because of your name and the banging on the window I'm getting real Wuthering Heights vibes Grin

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 14/12/2018 01:48

@TheRealJoseph

No need to be sorry Smile It's all lightheaded (well from me anyway). I've always been interested in the paranormal, but I'm not a believer. I just like reading about it and watching documentaries and fictional films. I've heard about the three knock things as well. I can't say I associated it though until you said!

Possibly a bit of a wally was walking by, saw the light on so tapped on your window and hid?

Have you got those dangly Christmas lights up outside? Could the wind have caught them?

TheRealJoseph · 14/12/2018 01:53

The new FTMB has plenty of spooking stuff to peruse, if you're interested.

JaneJeffer · 14/12/2018 01:53

It's all lightheaded Grin

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 14/12/2018 01:59

@AimlesslyPurposeful
No outside ones, just a tree on the inside. Very boring with decorations this year!

@TheRealJoseph
I haven't heard of FTMB, what does it stand for? I might give it a try Smileparanormal survivors is good. I also watched a documentary on the Enfield poltergeist which was also great

@JaneJeffer
Bloody autocorrect Grin I meant lighthearted

In the summer, I was on the sofa reading, just like you. My son walked into the living room, through to the kitchen, talking to me the whole time. As he walked in, in the corner of the room, were two beautiful, birds, hovering, they looked like large humming birds, they had glitter falling off them. I blinked they were still there, I called my son in, whilst still looking at them, I turned to ask him if he could see them - and they were gone.

As real and extraordinary as they seemed, I know they were not real. I believe I was in a waking dream, like sleep paralysis. I had to see my gp about something else and mentioned it. He said a waking dream. But I know when people say they've seen a ghost, that they truly believe it. It was so real, but impossible. If it had been a person, not beautiful birds, I'd have shit myself. Also DS didn't see them, even though he'd have walked right past them.

It was kind of cool and not scary at all.

Totally ruined ghost stories for me though.

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 14/12/2018 02:05

@fieryginger
That's probably one of the most beautiful ghost like story I'll ever hear! I've never heard about a waking dream before.

The Fortean Times Message Board (it's got everthing from Aliens to Yetis).

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 14/12/2018 02:14

@TheRealJoseph ooh might give that a try. Thank you Grin
