Just curious as to if you got yours from DWP (PIP etc). When? And what amazing thing you bought with it? Grin
Mine came yesterday and I bought electric and gas top ups, chocolate and painkillers.

@Philomensapie maybe if you aren't enough to not claim tax credits you could save your HmmHmmfaces ?
Fgs this is disabled people we are talking about , don't be the nob that gets jealous over a tenner

zenasfuck · 14/12/2018 21:10

*earnt

Lalalalalalaland · 14/12/2018 21:22

I work, the kids dad works.

My son's DLA is not means tested, the £10 was put towards the special needs pushchair we are saving up for for him.

Obviously if you want the extra £10 you are welcome to take his severe autism thay means he will never live independently...

No all people who claim DLA are on other benefits

Lalalalalalaland · 14/12/2018 21:22

Though we do get tax credits, we both have to work part time around each other as there is no childcare for children with complex needs

onefootinthegrave · 14/12/2018 21:30

Christmas bonus? Is it just from the DWP? Do those of us on tax credits get one from HMRC, or are we penalised for, you know, working? fhmm

RTFT, FFS. The £10 bonus is if you're in receipt of PIP.

You should feel ashamed to write something so shitty when there are thousands of us living in poverty because we're caring for loved ones with a disability. My son has just had his full PIP removed, the assessor wrote completely untrue information in his report and even though I've asked for a mandatory consideration, and sent in loads of evidence to prove it, I've been told that the overwhelming majority of MR's dont overturn the original decision so we'll have to go to a tribunal. My son, who was born at 31 weeks weighing less than 2lbs, who had a brain haemmoraghe at 6 weeks old, resulting in lifelong motor and co-ordination problems, has a stammer, aspergers, anxiety and OCD that tells him to throw himself in front of trains when he's on a platform, has got to go to a fucking tribunal to prove he's that disabled he's entitled to PIP, which includes a £10 bonus at Christmas.

People like you are the reason nothing ever changes, classic divide and rule. And we're the ones that suffer. Thanks.

zenasfuck · 14/12/2018 21:44

I'm spending my Xmas bonus on weed Smile

FaveNumberIs2 · 14/12/2018 21:47

Enjoy it. It’s come out of the dla that I no longer get for my son. So stop complaining that it’s only ten pound.

jarhead123 · 14/12/2018 21:49

I'm a carer for an elderly relative so I get it. Don't really notice it, but its a nice gesture.

TryItAndDieFatLass · 14/12/2018 21:54

I get it. It will buy more incontinence pads as Im getting through a lot more due to having a cough. But if youd like that £10 back please take my disabling spinal condition with nerve damage, leading to a very leaky bladder as well

italiancortado · 14/12/2018 21:55

It’s come out of the dla that I no longer get for my son

I'm sorry your son no longer gets DLA, but I'm quite sure it didn't get stopped so the rest of us could get an extra £10 at Christmas Confused

EmeraldShamrock · 14/12/2018 21:58

I have just scanned the thread, great humour and unfortunate misery. I can't believe some pps are actually begruding the more needy an extra 10pound at Christmas. The amount of people who get into debt, take out high cost loans, some parents are so low they take their life this time of year. FFS. What is it? If you can't work you don't deserve anything.

I tell ye, you would have an all out heart attack if you lived in Ireland. It is 100% bonus on your payment at Christmas. I personally do not get it but I wouldn't begrudge a cent of it. If it takes the weight off a familys shoulders, very little of it is invested so it goes straight back into the economy more spends, more jobs.

ExcitedForChristmas18 · 14/12/2018 22:02

@favenumber not one disabled person or carer on here has complained about receiving our £10..we are all very grateful, thank you very much!!

Tiredmumno1 · 14/12/2018 22:10

Excited is right FaveNumber, nobody has complained about the amount, it was meant to be a chat about what people were spending it on, until it got derailed by a fair few on here.

Honestly some of you should be ashamed of yourselves, pats on the back all round for making others feel a little lower than they already feel, disgusting Angry

totallycluelessoverhere · 14/12/2018 22:15

Sorry to hear about your mum yolo.
Is there anything you can use her heating grant for that she would have appreciated?

SimplySteve · 14/12/2018 22:17

My tenner put fuel in the car (yeah, us disabled people with severe mobility issues can get a new car) for hospital next week.

I also got another Christmas bonus from them. I have to justify why I should be re-awarded for another three years. Just so you're aware too, IME they take nothing at face value, disregard any evidence, make you have a "medical", then make their arbitrary decision. My blind, arthritic, chronically unstable diabetic was awarded nothing, and can prepare and cook food apparently. Waiting on their response to a new claim she's put in.

totallycluelessoverhere · 14/12/2018 22:23

favenumber nobody’s £10 comes out of your sons dla that he no longer gets - it doesn’t work like that Hmm
If your son was still getting his dla everyone would still have received their bonus.
No doubt the bonus scheme will stop at some point but that’s because the govt want to cut the benefits bill, leave poor people suffering and leave disabled people feeling even less worthy than they often already do.

longwayoff · 14/12/2018 22:25

Sorry to hear your sad news yolo, you'll need the money to settle up final accounts etc so dont be hasty.

FaveNumberIs2 · 14/12/2018 22:28

It would be nice if all those in need recieved it rather than having to jump through hoops and still be denied.

But then there will always be some people scamming the system and spoiling it for others. My mother scammed the disability system for over 25 years, which is one of the reasons we haven’t spoken in 11 years.

busyhonestchildcarer · 14/12/2018 22:29

Wow! Think there are lots of people who begrudge others who have so little just a little bit to make even a day a little less miserable.Maybe rake a look instead at the money wasted by this government.17 m spent for a good cause much better than the predicted billions of expected money being spent on HS 2 and the now expected doubling of this bill.

EmeraldShamrock · 14/12/2018 22:30

Sorry to hear about your DM Yolo. Flowers
I have caught up on the thread, it is very sad in such a rich country. I can't believe the payment has not risen in 40 years. It is shameful and disrespectful to those in need. Sad

edwinbear · 14/12/2018 22:33

Can I just remind people that £10 is the cost of putting a homeless person up in a hostel overnight. So whilst OP is spending her extra money on chocolate, that’s money that could have given a homeless person a bed and food for the night vs another night on the streets.

EwItsAHooman · 14/12/2018 22:35

Christmas bonus? Is it just from the DWP? Do those of us on tax credits get one from HMRC, or are we penalised for, you know, working?

Lots of people in receipt of DLA and PIP are in work. Lots of people who receive DLA and PIP aren't in work. Statistically people with disabilities are more likely to be unemployed, as are carers, because employers don't want them for all the reasons listed upthread. PIP and DLA are there to cover the costs that disability brings such as a reduced income, additional heating/water/electricity, specialist equipment, therapies, travel, and so on.

DH works. I do not. I'm DS' carer. He gets high rate DLA to reflect the fact that he needs a lot more care than NT children of his age. My carers £64.60 p/wk which equates to 38p an hour for the 24hr care he needs, ironically if I hired in private care I'd have to pay them minimum wage at the very least.

Unpaid carers save the government £132 billion each year, £10 is small change by comparison.

edwinbear · 14/12/2018 22:35

Put that into perspective all of you.

longwayoff · 14/12/2018 22:36

Good point busyhonest. When Boris was mayor of London he managed to spend £34million of taxpayers money on the garden bridge. Which doesn't exist. And never will. Nobody seems quite sure where it went. That's a lot of Christmas bonuses.

Samcro · 14/12/2018 22:37

edwinbear and can I remind you that this bonus is paid to people who are in a very hard place.
telling them to give their extra 10 pounds to another vulnerable group ......misses the point.
