Just curious as to if you got yours from DWP (PIP etc). When? And what amazing thing you bought with it? Grin
Mine came yesterday and I bought electric and gas top ups, chocolate and painkillers.

The £10 is to keep us sweet so we don't do that.

You think a tenner once per year is enough to ‘keep carers sweet’ and stop an uprising?

I disagree. I’d say it’s more likely that love and concern and care for their loved one is what keeps carers from uprising, fear of what would happen to them without the care provided, desperation. Not a tenner!

zeeboo · 15/12/2018 15:33

I haven't got mine yet strops Angry

Ginandsonicscrewdriver · 15/12/2018 15:34

The thing is, the two things are completely unrelated. If the fucking tories government stop the payment more likely than not the money would be absorbed else where. It’s not like giving disabled people in receipt of disability benefits actually effects homeless people directly (I hope this makes sense?). In the same way, if our government suddenly starting taxing large businesses etc properly, it wouldn’t be ringfenced for the homeless either.

It used to be that in Scotland councils administrated a £10 christmas bonus for pensioners every year. They had to go in person to pick it up and I imagine the administration cost more than was given out. It’s been cut, it originally went to fund parties for older adults in the community but it’s gone altogether now. Giving £10 to someone in receipt of a benefit is a bit more simple - less admin. Although it seems crazy they’re sending out letters to let people know.

I’ve seen similar posts on the nationals Facebook page which highlighted 400 women have signed up for the new maternity payment. There’s very similar froth on there about how working mums should get it too despite it not quite being a new benefit, just a transferred one (I think) and it being largely linked to things like tax credits and low income.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/12/2018 16:24

I think thry write to tell you so
A) you don't get excited and think it's a permanent increase
B) you don't panic it's an overpayment that will be clawed back

HelenaDove · 15/12/2018 16:26

"Try working for the NHS. Our bonus would be to not work over Christmas! So, as you work for a government agency why do you get a handout and we do not?"

Well maybe that £10 will go towards an out of hours taxi fare so that carers who dont drive can come to the hospital to pick up the ill/disabled person they care for the next time one of your lot decides to discharge them at 3am!!!!!

Ginandsonicscrewdriver · 15/12/2018 16:30

@SleepingStandingUp yeah I wondered that. I guess they can’t tell you whne they send your award letter because there’s no guarantee they’ll continue it.

totallycluelessoverhere · 15/12/2018 16:34

Just thinking that it would be nice if the bonus could be extended to those carers who provide more than 35 hours of care but don’t get carers allowance for whatever reason (underlying entitlement I think get call it). A relative of mine works in an employed NMw job for 42 hours per week and then goes home and is a carer from 7pm until she goes back to work in the morning. Her cared for person is up all night and she has to be up looking after her and getting her in and off the commode up to a dozen times each night. She doesn’t qualify for carers allowance because she earns over £110 per week and she has a mortgage to pay so she has to work.
The cared for person goes to a day centre during the day and has 2 social services funded carers visits whilst the relative carer is working in her employed role.
She never gets a day off and doesn’t get any bonus of any type Sad

WWlOOlWW · 15/12/2018 16:37

Agreed totallycluelessoverhere

My dad is my mum's carer but because his pension is over the threshold, he can't claim carers allowance.

EwItsAHooman · 15/12/2018 17:39

I was being sarcastic.

What time shall we start the revolution?

onefootinthegrave · 15/12/2018 18:16

^^ Whatever time you want me for the revolution that will not be televised, I'll be there with my walking stick and my son will join us with the (rather obscene looking) banana guard he likes to fiddle with!

Actually we've been on a number of protests re UC etc and a few years ago we were at the 'Balls to the Budget' demo - we joined Disabled People Against the Cuts, who organised it.

Madein1995 · 15/12/2018 18:38

simply I might be being naïve or stupid, and I honestly don't mean offence. I know the majority of people who appeal PIP get awarded, so chances are you might win at appeal. It's a stupid ridiculous system, it really it, and I understand if you guys never want to look at a PIP form again. I don't know what I'm saying really, except that you should win at appeal. Disgusting it should get to that though

CaroBB · 15/12/2018 18:41

My Son, Age 4 're sieves his £10 Christmas Bonus in his Disability Benefits.
I Work from home, mostly during the night as he needs to be watched constantly due to his complex issues. It's no fun and I am very tired most of the time, BUT, I refuse to go on Benefits whilst I can work, and I can work when he's asleep between 11am and 7am.
My son needs a lot of extra things which typically average kids don't need. He has to wear pull ups, eat special food, have many changes of Clothes and we make a lot of trips to hospital and other appointments every month.
Because of all the appointments (at least 2 a week), I can't do an average 9 to 5 job, but I do manage to put in 20 hours a week. Not everyone who gets this £10 is unemployed and what some consider to be Lazy.
I'm doing my absolute best to provide a good life for my children. If there are people out there who think my Son shouldn't receive this £10 from the DWP, you can take your opinion and shove it up your backside. Ile be spending it on a piece of Chewelry for him, And a Special Key to get access to Disabled Toilets so Ile be able to change him in private, rather than in the boot of my car where I have to do it at the moment. Hardly wasted! Ps, I don't get a disability car either so don't sweat over that either penny pinchers! No drain on society here!

Chardeemacdennis1 · 15/12/2018 18:44

Absolute piss take. Merry Christmas, sorry your disabled but here's an extra £10 to enjoy the sesaon.

I found it insulting that the DWP thinks that's all a disabled person deserves.

Mbhatescf123 · 15/12/2018 18:45

Its amazing how begrudging the bonus is dressed up in ways that posters think makes them look reasonable and of course its another way of having a pop at vulnerable people by making out that them spending the £10 bonus on treats is selfish as there are homeless people needing shelter. If the bonus was stopped the money would not be spent on homeless people and homeless shelters are charitable run and usually recieve no public funds. The government through local authority (councils) make sure the shelters have to pay for licences, any scheme that they disguise as for public safety but means that they get to regulate and charge and then of course fine any breaches or late renewals and then they have social workers and other roles that work at shelters that are employed through local authority and have to meet a strict set of criteria that is justified as safety but is so expensive and the enforcing of rules hefty fines, loss of licences etc so the government are not going to spend a penny saved on homeless.

FantasticHarryPotter · 15/12/2018 18:53

I'd sooner not be registered blind than have any benefits (bar the standard child benefit that is). It would have made schooling easier, employment easier, parenthood easier, transport easier, acceptance easier, self esteem easier... well, you get the idea.

If someone on this thread is really in need send me your details and I'll give you my £10. There's always someone harder up than you but you can always be generous whether with money, time, sincerity...

SimplySteve · 15/12/2018 18:55

Thanks @Madein1995 . It's been to appeal, no award. They made two errors in law, so pursuing that. We've a new claim submitted, and rather hopeful. Nothing in your post to get offended about Smile

Madein1995 · 15/12/2018 19:38

Aww good simply. Off topic , but they're running really far behind, it's 8 plus weeks for an assessment them at least 8 to 10 weeks for a decision. Thus hasn't got anything to do with anything, but I know people are worrying when they haven't heard back x

longwayoff · 15/12/2018 20:10

A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens. A deletable offence to mention it on here which is unfortunate, as its the story that made, and makes, Christmas for so many, featuring the mean, the selfish and the redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge who has these unfortunate character traits. Given a few of the utterly disgusting comments made on this thread Dickens could have enough material for a follow up. But, of course, it would be deleted. Merry Christmas to nearly all of you.

dorisdog · 15/12/2018 23:37

I wish it was more for all of you who are struggling on benefits - whether also in work or unable to work at all. If wealth was distributed more fairly, in this country, it could be more than a measly £10. Like actual benefits that enable people to live properly.

My sister has a severe learning disability. My mum had to devote 18 years to her daily care - it's a tough life that leaves people in ongoing poverty. And it shouldn't, imo. If you have a disability or are caring for someone with a disability, it's hard work and should be compensated appropriately.

Iwanttoswingfromachandier · 16/12/2018 00:21

Try working for the NHS. Our bonus would be to not work over Christmas! So, as you work for a government agency why do you get a handout and we do not?

I''m horrified that someone who works for the NHS is so lacking in empathy. I also work for the NHS and shame on you - a handout? Please don't lump 'our' as your vile take on it - what's vile is that it's such a paltry amount the most vulnerable in our country receive so very little - a tenner?? seriously??

As for the edwin poster - words fail - for all you allegedly do for the homeless I just can't take you seriously - you come on a thread berating people, disabled and carers, saying they should give to charity?? behave yourself ffs! I really am embarrassed for you for your posts on this thread - investment banker? I rather think sad little troll sat in a bedsit billy no mates - and yes I feel sorry for you

ExFury · 16/12/2018 15:19

You obviously don’t work on the front line - no one who did would begrudge carers a bonus as front line nhs staff are acutely aware of how fucked this country would be without them. Let alone be heartless enough to begrudge disabled people.

ExFury · 16/12/2018 15:21

When you think about it the tenner is quite fitting to the standing of disabled people and carers in br country. When it came in it was a full extra week of money. The government gave a bit of a shit and helped out at an expensive time of year (weather etc).

Now disabled people and carers get £10. Which basically sums up how little they are thought of by the current and recent governments.

Mbhatescf123 · 16/12/2018 19:39

Carer from 300 miles away. Skype care or facetime is not being a true carer. Oh and if out the house 6 till 7 then also volunteers at homeless shelter then even that would be limited unless they are using work and volunteering time to give 'care' to epileptic aunt! Wow how obvious is it that its all to wind up and annoy genuine carers and ill.

Mbhatescf123 · 16/12/2018 19:52

The thread is exactly what the government use to justify stopping benefits as they know people are easy to convince that they are being deprived of what they deserve by other people getting benefits. Ridiculous
