Any help appreciated, we are going Christmas shopping and I'd like to be considerate at lunchtime!

I'd ask your mum first. Does she eat low carb normally? Maybe she'll want to have something higher carb than usual for lunch, if it's a treat and she's planned for it?

I loved a good omelette and side salad in cafes when I was carb counting.

Ah that's kind of you to have thought of this. Anything that won't spike her blood sugar, so protein and veg e.g. any sort of salad, healthy soup, brunch type dish involving egg, avocado, salmon etc. Have a lovely time. (Michael Moseley 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet recipes are all along the above lines)

You could just ask her - hey mum, where would you like to go for lunch? People have different preferences.

BellsAreRinging1 · 13/12/2018 10:54

Of course I can ask her, but she will just say we can go anywhere. I don't want to then choose somewhere where the only choice is paninis for example, if she can't have them. Thank you for the guidance, her eyesight is poor at the moment but bloods balanced and good so she would normally have what she wants but don't want to destabilise things.

DH has type 2 and if going out for a meal is very quite likely to have something 'naughty' and then just make up for it at the next meal. T2 on medication is controlled beyond an odd bowl of pasta.

Enjoy your day out with your DM!

If you go to somewhere like Ask or Pizza Express she could have something like a caesar salad with grilled chicken.

Some of the ‘posh’ burger places offer a naked burger with no bun, and salad instead of chips.

Is this for Christmas lunch or lunch whilst out shopping?

For Christmas lunch one day of being ‘naughty’ isn’t going to be bad.

She can eat whatever she likes when out for lunch and ordering. White bread spikes my MIL too much but I’m fine with it. I’m a grown adult and I choose how ‘good’ I am being. Nowhere if off limits for me and if I want cake or whatever I balance it out with the rest of my meals that week.

Basically don’t overthink it x
