Posting here for traffic or would it be better in the staff room?? My DD has a male teacher this year (I’m guessing in his 30’s) what on earth do you get male teachers?? I’m a teacher myself but I haven’t worked with many males and I also don’t drink so I wouldn’t buy someone alcohol (I just don’t find it appropriate) he’s a quiet enough guy. I also know randomly that he doesn’t like coffee. HELP!?

A hammer wrapped in bacon.

My kids just make cards for their teachers. I'm a cheapskate a child of a teacher and remember that the huge numbers of ornaments and mugs, more than anyone could possibly need, and the enormous mountains of Roses and Quality Street. It was nuts, and totally unnecessary.

Loving some of the manly suggestions.
Mankini for next summer, with a bottle of factor 50 Grin

MrsTerryPratcett · 13/12/2018 13:53

We got ours a protein shake thing. He works out a lot. Don't you know anything about him?

I haven't RTFT though Grin

Teachers on here can't spell stationery

Yup. My primary schooling followed an ethos of let them spell phonetically until year 6, then teach them to spell. Could've been great if I hadn't moved districts for yr6 to somewhere that didn't follow that ethos. Result: I can't spell for shit. Had to do multiple tests over the years for literacy (PGCE, Civil Service entry). Results put me into the top 1% of people with post-graduate quals, so I guess I over-compensated. Mind, don't ask me about mental arithmetic skills either.....

Be sure to wrap it in blue paper.

That industrial / catering kitchen roll stuff?

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 13/12/2018 13:58

DD2 had a male teacher last year. We got a funny chocolate sprout game thing for Christmas and an Amazon voucher for end of term.

Pumperthepumper · 13/12/2018 14:17

I know a good way to remember - a pEn is stationEry while a cAr is stantionAry 👍

FGoya · 13/12/2018 15:22

What kind of a person would complain about mountains of Roses and Quality Street??

randomchap · 13/12/2018 15:27

Find out if he's a fan of any sports teams and get him a lanyard with that team on. My DD's teacher still uses her New York Jets lanyard 3 years after she gave it him.

I'm a massive NY Jets fan! Not often that comes up in conversation in the UK.

Don't know that I'd complain as such, but I have no interest in chocolate, so half a dozen boxes of the stuff every year is just gonna get regifted - except I don't know who I'd regift it to.

Goingonandonandon · 13/12/2018 15:38

DS got everything from tie to souvenir from India to chocolate to wine glasses. His favorite is beer.

Honestly, anything, you could get him flowers if you want to. or a potted plant.

Loyaultemelie · 13/12/2018 15:39

Quiet man whiskey? (Disclaimer I have no idea how much that one is in case it's wildly expensive!)

Fatbutt · 13/12/2018 16:06

@SunnyTikka We didn't wrap the wrap! Grin

If you look at the poem, its an emergency pack for if you run out at the last minute! and was always given mid-december - they have more than enough to sort out taking home on the last day!

HildaZelda · 13/12/2018 16:08

@Fatbutt, you bought your DD's teacher a birthday present? Confused

TwoGinScentedTears · 13/12/2018 16:11

BLU tack! Allbtraxgers love blutack no matter what's in their pants Grin

TheFallenMadonna · 13/12/2018 16:12

My brother is a primary teacher and he gets given ridiculous numbers of comedy ties. Don't do that...
Chocolate.

She doesn't like chocolate. I know, I know, it's nuts, but there you have it. Also, after the first 20 boxes, you really do start to get a little tired of them, and I say that as a dedicated chocaholic.

Fatbutt · 14/12/2018 12:38

@hildazelda yes, the one and only time - it fell around her BFFs birthday and they had been discussing it, DD loves to give gifts and asked to give one to her teacher - we quite often bake cakes or give small token gifts to people for whatever occasion!

trinity0097 · 14/12/2018 12:47

I’m not a guy but the best presents I received this year were a book token and some really warm mittens (the parent knows I do the before school and 5pm duty every day in the freezing cold, so it’s a really thoughtful gift).

All the champagne I gave to a colleague and my husband now has 6 bottles of red. I don’t drink. The scented candles I will give to my Mum for raffle prizes in her village hall.

I’m grateful, of course, but I get little enjoyment from my presents!

You really can do no wrong with an amazon voucher!

Dahlietta · 14/12/2018 13:18

Female teachers I normally give an orchid (or similar) or a smelly candle or hand cream

I'm a female teacher and I'd much rather have a book token and a box of chocs Grin

trinity0097 · 14/12/2018 14:51

I agree, I kill plants, don’t use hand cream or scented candles

masterandmargarita · 14/12/2018 14:54

I give gifts of things I don't consume myself. What's wrong with alcohol?

Youngandfree · 14/12/2018 15:25

@masterandmargerita I just don’t like to buy ppl alcohol I don’t think it’s necessary to be honest. I don’t go to pubs or bars at all really do I don’t get involved in “rounds” either. 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, this thread has made me feel a bit sorry for female teachers!

Youngandfree · 14/12/2018 15:39

OMG some of you guys are so pedantic. I’m generally asking because he is quiet and I have no idea. I wanted a a generic accepted gift that wasn’t a best teacher mug( which I hate!!) I am also a teacher so I know what I would prefer but let’s face it not many parents actually ask. The amount of bottles of wine I get (which for most would be lovely) that are a waste because I don’t drink. I also don’t use hand cream but I find a lot of my co workers do 🤷‍♀️ And yes I would have got him chocs most probably but I was just looking for IDEAS. I didn’t realize that I was going to get bashed for being somewhat gender stereotypical 🙄

Well men only like male things so I’d go with penis enlarger or maybe testicle scrubber.
