Posting here for traffic or would it be better in the staff room?? My DD has a male teacher this year (I’m guessing in his 30’s) what on earth do you get male teachers?? I’m a teacher myself but I haven’t worked with many males and I also don’t drink so I wouldn’t buy someone alcohol (I just don’t find it appropriate) he’s a quiet enough guy. I also know randomly that he doesn’t like coffee. HELP!?

Or other books that went down well include the star wars shakespeare books (basically star wars written as though WS had written it)

Oysterbabe · 13/12/2018 11:34

I think a nice pen. And maybe a red one too for marking.

Xmasbaby11 · 13/12/2018 11:34

I bought dd's teacher some Fat Face aftershave type stuff - gift from Boots.

I don't know him so it's a stab in the dark though!

Dagnabit · 13/12/2018 11:34

We don't bother with Christmas presents for teachers, just end of year ones!

Youngandfree · 13/12/2018 11:35

Female teachers I normally give an orchid (or similar) or a smelly candle or hand cream

themoomoo · 13/12/2018 11:36

same as I get the female teachers: nothing.
makes life a lot easier and cheaper

Youngandfree · 13/12/2018 11:37

@cloudtree you have given me inspiration!!thank you!! I will get him a voucher for our local bookstore and a box of chocs! 🙌👍

Local bookstore also has magazines and stationary so I’m sure it will come in handy.

Pens and book tokens are usually practical for male teachers.

AdamNichol · 13/12/2018 11:46

Since he's a male I'd say get something related to tractors, dinosaurs or football.

In order - nope, I'm not 8 anymore, and no no no no [hate football].

He’s still single I know that much

Ah! LoveHoney vouchers.............kidding......

SpeckleDust · 13/12/2018 11:48

I am a woman (not a teacher) and hate all things 'smelly' (hand cream, bath stuff, etc) so I wouldn't assume that just because someone is male/female they adhere to the (ridiculous) gender stereotypes.

DD2 has had two male teachers in primary school and the parents usually put £5 in each and club together to buy vouchers (done for both male or female teachers). All the teachers I know love getting vouchers!

For the record, DD2 has Yr6 male teacher who bloody loves Taylor Swift. Please don't get stuck in the blue/pink gift rut Wink.

OutPinked · 13/12/2018 11:48

Honestly men aren’t a different species. They still like to eat biscuits and chocolate and (some) drink alcohol.

AdamNichol · 13/12/2018 11:49

I know there are people who LOVE stationary (DW for instance....), but why pens? Not that I really used pens that much as a teacher, but they were available everywhere. Isn't it a bit like giving a nurse a thermometer?

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 13/12/2018 11:50

My pal is a teacher and Costa vouchers are her favourite gift.

PermanentlyFrizzyHairBall · 13/12/2018 11:50

I've never bought anything for a female teacher I could get for a man. Chocolates, vouchers, coffee, posh jam etc.

Rudgie47 · 13/12/2018 11:53

Nothing or a card at the most. I never knew children nowadays buy teachers presents, we never did.

Lovemusic33 · 13/12/2018 11:57

I don’t really do teacher gifts but one year dd wanted to buy her teacher something so she got him a chocolate orange.

Youngandfree · 13/12/2018 11:59

AdamNichol 😂😂😂👍😜 that would be hilarious!!

Ah guys I know men are not a completely different species (I do have a husband 🙄) I just don’t like wasting money on tat that I know he won’t like. I usually can gauge better with the female teachers as they are more chatty, as I have said he is a quiet person 🤷‍♀️

National Book Tokens, WH SMith Gift Card, Costa Gift Card. I think gift vouchers are great. Posh tea, chocolates. If he doesn't like it he can always regift it!

starray · 13/12/2018 12:01

I always get teachers a gift - to show our appreciation for having put up with all the nonsense our child has put him or her through during the year!

Paddington68 · 13/12/2018 12:02

If the school is near a Costa or Starbucks a gift card for there.
Chocolate, wine, pen, post its, scarf, gloves, notebook, book token, cinema voucher, John Lewis voucher,

Dottierichardson · 13/12/2018 12:04

Another vote for vouchers or food, if you want something different then M and S does posh varieties of pesto, olive pate and similar...that way even if it's not something that they like they can use it up over Christmas when entertaining...depending on budget can buy a small gift box from Paperchase and pack the items with tissue paper so it's a bit like a mini gift hamper...I wouldn't buy books as people's reading tastes are very varied...

Jux · 13/12/2018 12:05

DD used to make all her teachers flapjacks or coconut ice. The male teachers were particularly appreciative!

Youngandfree · 13/12/2018 12:07

@Paddington68 we are in rural Ireland so nothing but the pub and the church, and a few horses in the field next door 🤣

OP posts:
Youngandfree · 13/12/2018 12:08

@jux yes we normally make gingerbread or shortbread Christmas cookies too 👍
