I know legally you aren't allowed to, but as I would be supporting sky with viewing the ads is it really that bad to watch sky news?

You don't need a licence to watch sky news on you tube.

applepineapple · 12/12/2018 18:33

Tv licence is only for BBC though?

nickiredcar · 12/12/2018 18:36

I know, but its still live tv and apparently you need a licence even if its not bbc

You need a licence to watch live tv either on a tv or other device or bbc iPlayer. Not for non-live tv though

Elfinablender · 12/12/2018 18:38

You are fine.

MissionItsPossible · 12/12/2018 18:41

Legally you need to but just do it, it's only YouTube.

citiesofbismuth · 12/12/2018 18:43

Use a vpn or a private browser like duckduckgo.

Incorrect. It's for all live TV plus downloads and catch-up.

Happypie · 12/12/2018 18:57

Legally wrong, morally write. The BBC is a biased, wasteful institution, that should not be funded by the taxpayer.

SumitosIsMyWall · 12/12/2018 18:57

As streaming live TV is easier to prove than having a TV that may or may not receive a live signal I suspect we'll see more people brought to account over not having a TV licence in the future. For the time being though I don't think TV licencing is that joined up with the Internet providers to do this sort of tracing.

Legally and ethically you're in the wrong. Whether you get caught is another matter entirely.

badlydrawnperson · 12/12/2018 18:58

I have a TV licence but I think The BBC is utterly corrupt. So I won't disapprove.

I hate Sky and Murdoch even more mind.

It's effectively unenforceable - they have pretty much zero way of getting the evidence and most people who are fined incriminate themselves.

Well I've learnt something today Grin

Happypie · 12/12/2018 19:08

*right

Although not for live or downloads and catch up if you are watching it on a device powered by battery (no charger) in a public or private place or outside (not sure whether WIFI comes into play though)
