Aibu to think it is perfectly fine for a woman to drink beer or cider instead of wine

So I'm more of a beer/cider person than a wine person. Don't get me wrong I love wine it's just not my go to drink. My go to drink is Budweiser, Magners, Stella, old mount cider or orchard thieves.
But anyway the other day I heard a co worker saying how it's not lady like to drink beer or cider and it's a sign of alcoholism.

It took me all my strength to not go Round there and say yeah me having my pint of Magners with around 2.6 units is alcoholism but you drinking that entire 9.8 unit bottle of wine by yourself is completely fine.

So Aibu to think it's ok for a woman to drink beer and cider. Btw this is obviously under safe conditions aka if she's not driving, if she's not gonna put anyone in danger when she drinks it

I generally drink wine, only because so few places do ‘proper’ ciders like I like. If they have them I drink the ciders though.

I will also occasionally drink Guinness or tea ale mood depending

coolmum223 · 12/12/2018 21:50

@ErrolTheDragon it's a nightmare to get them in my local area. In the local off license the only ale is a locally made ale and it's expensive AF but is really nice I suspect I'll find a few bottles left for me this Christmas from Santa DH.
Personally I like Budweiser. But I could argue that (insert fancy ale here) tastes like piss to me. I think it comes down to personal preference I do tend to have weird tastes

Should have mentioned this bud is my go to when I'm drinking out of a bottle since I've had things that put me off ale like a local pub serving me a horrible ale which damaged it for me I found out the owner made it and was trying to promote it. As for lager most places

Co-worker clearly talking bollocks here.

coolmum223 · 12/12/2018 21:53

@Giraffey1 she is a bit of a weirdo I should Have said that at the start

Sirzy · 12/12/2018 21:53

If your not sure if you like a real ale then ask for a taster of it.

coolmum223 · 12/12/2018 21:54

Ok for everyone saying about bud I personally like it but I have weird tastes. But one thing I think a majority of us beer drinkers can agree on is that one of the best beers in the world possibly is a well pulled pint of Guinness in a Irish pub. I'm lucky to live in Ireland and so when I want a good pint of Guinness i can head to a pub and get one done for me if your ever in Ireland I highly highly reccomend the kitchen bar for Guinness

Meh my drink of choice is whiskey

It vacillates between odd blokes thinking it's randomly sexy ( erm no just prefer the taste)

Or anyone thinking because it's a spirit I'm a lush

So basically people who have odd boxes and rules for this stuff are bloody wierd

iLoveFoood · 12/12/2018 22:14

People who define anything even such as a meagre drink connected to someone's sex is ridiculous. In that case, oh men can't drink wine?

Idiots 😂 if someone said that to me I'd think they are very close minded.

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 12/12/2018 22:18

Your co-worker needs telling that unless a woman is planning on drinking her alcohol through her vagina, what she drinks has nothing to do with her gender and how "like" it she is.

Hell, even if she sucked it up her fanny with a straw, it still wouldn't have an impact on her gender.

Cockwombkr.

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 12/12/2018 22:18

Cockwomble obviously.

showmeshoyu · 12/12/2018 22:23

LTB leave the beer.

starzig · 12/12/2018 22:31

I think It is actually better for women to drink cider or beer. Wine is extremely strong and most people that drink wine regularly (including me) end up drinking far to much. I often end up drinking the whole bottle of a Saturday night. When i go out I drink beer (So I can make it home).

EvaReady · 12/12/2018 22:33

Happy to drink a pint of beer or cider or glass of wine or gin and tonic - not keen on sparkling stuff also not keen on being seen as "ladylike" I've never been keen on terms like that - they are all about controlling women.

Loyaultemelie · 12/12/2018 22:36

Oh dear she'd have enjoyed Sunday lunch at my dparents last weekend.
Dh and df had a glass of wine each dm and I had a pint of cider each now I'm not sure if I should use a Grinor a Blush

MinesaPinot · 12/12/2018 22:38

I enjoy a glass of wine (sparkling or otherwise) but equally I'm happy with a beer. Just depends what I fancy at the time.

Your co-worker wants to cop themselves on OP.

BlimeyCalmDown · 12/12/2018 22:39

Clearly an elderly, sexist, out dated, old fashioned, narrow minded, biddy that really doesn't deserve all the attention of this thread....

GlitterStick · 12/12/2018 22:41

Your co worker sounds like a berk.
Women can drink whatever the hell they like.
I like wine but also enjoy necking a pint of cider when out too!

coolmum223 · 12/12/2018 22:42

By the way not sure if I should say this or not but im not saying there's a Pe

OP posts:
coolmum223 · 12/12/2018 22:43

Sorry I keep hitting the post button by accident.
Anyway I'm not saying there's a problem with women drinking wine im just saying both genders should be allowed to drink all 3. I mean at the end of the day both are gonna get you drunk if you drink too much so it's not like one isn't gonna cause drunken Behaviour

Co-worker is a silly twat who can safely be ignored. I generally drink pints, mostly cider (I love Aspalls and Stowford Press). For one thing, a pint lasts longer than a glass of wine for about the same price.

I don't do 'ladylike' anything, but no one expects me to: most of my socialising has always been on 'alternative' scenes where people do what they want. I do recall being treated with some suspicion in an Essex pub in the mid 90s when I ordered a pint and a half for me and my companion and they were funny about the fact that the pint was for me (he was having the half as he was driving the van).

BlackForestCake · 12/12/2018 23:50

Both sexes ARE allowed to drink all three. Nobody should be letting silly small-minded people judge what beverages they enjoy!

tillytrotter1 · 12/12/2018 23:58

Of course you can drink beer, but not in a handled glass and not in pints, We don't serve ladies pints, you can have two halves though! At least that was the situation in the pub we went to near college in the 60s

tillytrotter1 · 13/12/2018 00:01

I don't like Budweiser at all though I must admit!

Real Budweiser is far superior to the American watery stuff, in fact water is preferable to American mass produced 'beer' though they are now developing some decent micro-breweries.

HestiaParthenos · 13/12/2018 00:16

But anyway the other day I heard a co worker saying how it's not lady like to drink beer or cider and it's a sign of alcoholism.

A sign of alcoholism? Oo

How utterly weird.

Surely, any notion of class that goes with specific drinks would be applied to men as well as women, if you bother doing so at all?

I admit to being a bit judgemental of people who drink from bottles at the dinner table. That seems a bit uncultured.
