Sensitive Data at school AIBU

My 14 year old DS has just left a school trip form on a teachers desk at the end of school because he wasn't there. AIBSOW (Am I being stupidly over worried) to call the school reception desk and ask them to go and find it or to go down there now myself? It has his full name, passport number, photocopy of his EHIC card, dob, address, health info, the lot on it. DS says don't call. He would be mortified but I'm actually quite worried about it. I've probably been made worse from the compulsory GDPR Training I did at work this morning. Grin

Some will disagree but this wouldn’t bother me at all. I would only be calling to ensure it was received.

What do you think will happen? Genuinely, I'm struggling to see how anyone who is likely to come across that info could use it in a negative way?

Ponka · 12/12/2018 15:52

I don't know. Fraudsters can do a lot with a full name, dob, address etc. Bank Accounts, Fake documents for use in crime. Seriously, I know how far fetched that sounds and what the chances really are but it happens to some people, right?

Although I'm getting the impression the majority think I am being stupidly over sensitive, so I might just force myself not to ring up. Grin

Fraudsters could use it. I'm not sure how they are going to get it from a teacher's desk though

I'm not sure 14 year olds' id sells for much given that they can't get credit!

CrookedMe · 12/12/2018 16:07

I'm not sure fraudsters hang around schools randomly!?

I'm pretty sure the entire internet is a more fertile hunting ground for them.

It'll be fine Smile

I would be more worried about fraudster targeting your rubbish bin than a teacher's desk within a school. If the school allow randoms to roam in the corridors, ID fraud would be the least of my concerns!
