we don't celebrate christmas but i love doing the rounds of charity shops in january and buying up unwanted christmas gifts of naice shower gels and soaps for use over the next 12 months. i'm quite fussy but get some really good bargains - i'm a very committed recycler.
it's a shame someone has received a gift they don't want, but at least they thought to put it into a charity shop. the charity shop wins and i get some thing gorgeous for the bath etc that i wouldn't normally buy.
does anyone else stock up like this, reduced price crackers, wrapping paper for next year from charity shops ?

anyone want to share or is it way too early pre christmas, also don't want to put any one off buying gift sets as presents Smile

I buy reduced wrapping paper and cards in tesco in January but not in charity shops. Tbh Im specific about which smellies I use but not in a snobby way so the sets don't really work for me as the stuff I buy doesn't come in set form. I like run of the mill stuff.

hunt i was thinking charity shops with wrapping paper as the money raised helps good causes. people put out really nice sets from m & s, i've had lush gift boxes [unopened] several lots of 'treacle moon' collections. i'm not one for the buy one get one free cheap sets and bog standard every day stuff.

I do this! I get very cheap, good toiletries outside my usual price range, and I weed out the things I am not going to use from the sets (usually mostly body lotion - no one person needs that much body lotion) and offer it to my local women's refuge, who leap on it. Everybody wins.

I would never have thought of doing this, I genuinely had no idea until you’ve mentioned it!

I usually go to Boots for their 75% off but there isn’t much left by then and I like naice smellies.

When do the unwanted gifts start coming in?

I’d much rather give my money to the CS and like Lush and Treacle Moon etc.

I bought some lovely cards in a Charity shop last year and much cheaper wrapping paper towards the end of January.

shady i start looking late dec and go round a couple of times a week when i'm in town doing other things. you need to be quick off the mark though because by mid january the really good stuff has gone.

You can find the really good stuff in January on Ebay.

@paintinmyhairAgain

Thanks for the tips, I’ll start looking in between Christmas and New Year.

Happy shopping!

Anniversarysavings · 12/12/2018 10:51

I do this Grin

Not just for smellies, the donations to the shops seem to increase after Christmas for things like board games, clothes and unwanted book gifts too so me and my partner each save back a small amount of money for charity shopping after Christmas.

This year we are also keeping a bit back for baby stuff as we are due early spring and think we will be able to get some unwanted baby items.
