This isn't an AIBU I need advice on what to do about my cats my oldest male and female cats have started fighting they scream at each and chase each other round the female will hunt my male cat out just to start an unprovoked fight with him my male cat is now frightened of the female cat and he will run off and hide to get away from her she delibratly gets in to his face just to wind him up she puffs herself up and has scrached his nose. I'm getting feliways to see if they will help to calm things down. I have the female cat seperated from the rest in the bedroom but she can't spend the rest of her life locked away in the bedroom is there anything else that I can try with them. I have thought about rehoming the female cat but that is a last resort and something I will only do when I have exhausted every option. All my cats have been neutered and the oldest are both 2 years old. All advice greatfuly recieved.

My friend had a similar problem with her two cats, they suddenly started fighting after years of no problems. She squirted them with a water pistol when they began to fight and although she had a soggy house for a few days they stopped extremely quickly. Her vet had told her to handle it like that and it worked a treat.

@Greysgirl thank you I will try that fingers crossed it will work its just shocked me that they now have full on scraps for no reason they have lived together since they where kittens and now they can't be in the same room as each other.

Have you tried feliway?

Greysgirl · 11/12/2018 21:13

That’s EXACTLY the same as my friends two cats, they were from the same litter. Animals a funny things!

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 11/12/2018 21:27

@pachyderm1 I'm going to buy some feliway plugins for them to see if that will help to calm them down.

@Greysgirl they really are funny things my 2 oldest are only 6 months apart and have been as close as anything from day 1 and now they just want to murder each other I don't know whats happened.

i too agree with the water pistol approach, but preferably only on the female aggressor cat - so that the more timid victimised male cat isn't further traumatised - on top of the aggression he is encountering from the female cat.

Female aggressor cat will learn very quickly!

Shootfirstaskquestionslater · 11/12/2018 22:35

@SynchroSwimmer thank you I will try that on her to see if it stops her from bullying him I wouldn’t want to do anything that will make the male cat feel anymore bullied than he’s already feeling. I feel really sorry for him he’s so frightened of her at the minute. Hoping I can get it all sorted out because she can’t spend the rest of her life locked away and my male cat can’t spend his whole life being bullied.
