So the time lapses make it more likely? Shit i have no idea how this sort of thing works.

Did a grocery shop today and got a cab home. After pulling up the driver very kindly got out to help me with my shopping. And he wrinkled his nose up and asked me what the smell was. So i told him. It could be smelt all over the car park. Bloody embarrasing.

Update Strong smell again on Thursday and Friday On Friday afternoon i could also smell sulpher and spices so they had obviously lit a scented candle to try and hide it.

Sat and Sun had a bit of a break from it but can smell it again now in the bathroom.

Wordthe · 17/12/2018 20:28

If he was growing the smell would be constant

Branleuse · 18/12/2018 11:01

mumsnet is famous for its swearing for fucks sake

HelenaDove · 25/12/2018 23:26

Tonight has been really bad. There was a search warrant executed on the estate recently. We got a note through our door about it asking if we have any information regarding it to contact them or crimestoppers. the smell coming from the downstairs flat directly underneath us is now so strong that im worried that if another search is done the police dog will smell it coming from our flat even though we dont smoke it.

graphista · 26/12/2018 00:28

Call crime stoppers then? Is that something you think you could do?

It's a bloody rotten situation.

jessstan2 · 26/12/2018 01:02

Helena, do you really have to use such vile language?

What are the Housing Association going to do about the smell of skunk. You could ask your neighbour to smoke it where the smell will not escape into the common parts of the building, burn scented candles etc. She may not realise the smell permeates the building, I expect she is immune to it.

If she isn't careful she could be in trouble with the law.

jessstan2 · 26/12/2018 01:03

Oh I see candles have been burned. Obviously not enough.

IfNotNowBernard · 26/12/2018 01:15

I had this with a neighbour. I once found their cat stoned out of his mind on my doorstep. I only reported it to the council but another neighbour reported it to the police.
Turned out the perpetrator was on probation and dealing too. They came and busted him, spent all day carrying out bags of evidence. I think he went back inside because I only see his his girlfriend now.
If your neighbour has previous convictions, especially for drugs, the police will most definitely be interested.
It's really antisocial and disgusting. Fucking disgusting I should say.

Wordthe · 26/12/2018 10:12

I don't think the cat was stoned that's just what cats are like

Cannabis will be legal soon and calling the police because of the smell will be just the same as calling the police because you can smell curry from downstairs
they'll just go 'yeah and?'

AsleepAllDay · 26/12/2018 10:30

Lol at people saying 'it's illegal, call the police.' The police are already stretched enough by cuts, they're not going to waste time going to someone's house when they have burglars and murderers to catch

Given that your DH has COPD, try environmental health?

It may also be a case of talking to your landlord again.

People can smoke what they like for personal use in their homes. I would say you need a creative solution for this because no police force is going to bust into someone's house without probable cause for a real growing operation

IfNotNowBernard · 26/12/2018 10:31

I don't think the cat was stoned that's just what cats are like
Well, having had cats all my life..they are not usually completely floppy, splayed out on their side with their eyes fixed and staring when you try to move them!
Helena, honestly, if your neighbour has been in trouble for drugs before the police might very well take action.
I hope to God skunk is never legalised, it's evil stuff.

AsleepAllDay · 26/12/2018 10:32

@IfNotNowBernard my cat is a ragdoll, he is like that

Wordthe · 26/12/2018 10:39

Cannabis is legal in Canada the USA it's legal for medical use in the UK so yes it will soon be legal for recreational use in the UK
it is not evil stuff, it has therapeutic uses and recreational uses and for most people is harmless
I get that you might not like the smell but I don't like the smell of lots of things, I don't call the police because of unpleasant smells though

Weezol · 26/12/2018 10:47

We got a note through our door about it asking if we have any information regarding it to contact them or crimestoppers

Follow that advice - it's being issued for a reason. It's likely the police have had some funding to run a 'clean up' type operation. The intelligence they gather from the public is essential, it really helps allocate resources.

Don't approach the downstairs neighbour at all, let the police handle that.

Keep on at the HA - mine has a dedicated Anti-social Behaviour Officer, have a dig about on the HA website.

Similar neighbours are in the process of being evicted from my block on the grounds of breach of tenancy with the application supported by witnesses (the other residents and the Housing officer) and a record of police regularly having to attend the address.

LEMtheoriginal · 26/12/2018 10:48

Your beighbour is keepjng skunks in his flat? Call the RSPCA!

IfNotNowBernard · 26/12/2018 11:27

I know the cat, it's not a ragdoll!
And skunk is not the same as medicinal marijuana.

Wordthe · 26/12/2018 11:32

Please explain the difference between skunk and medical marijuana

Justanotherlurker · 26/12/2018 12:04

People are being purposely obtuse or trying a bit too hard refering to animals and RSPCA

OP, if you're not prepared to report it(and I'm not aware of police highlighting they are going to do a raid as it kind of defeats the point ) then there is not much you can do.

As others have said, we will be following other countries in legalisation soon so it will become more common. Certain US states etc have fully legalised it with no adverse effects that the puritans were worried about, the police have not been that bothered by weed for years

AsleepAllDay · 26/12/2018 14:33

@Wordthe huge difference - medical marijuana is produced by professionals, they experiment with things like CBD and THC content, the varieties are carefully bred to have certain effects that help patients with particular issues (like nausea, depression, muscle pain and so on), they're sold by legal and professional dispensaries and stores, they're not sprayed with insecticides etc that make you sick to inhale, taxed by local government

Skunk: made in appalling conditions, often involving labour from people being exploited, sprayed with so much shit to make you sick, the only objective is to be as strong as possible, no care taken as to its properties, sold to fund criminal rings and contribute to other crimes

Wordthe · 26/12/2018 16:59

@Asleep, you're talking out of your arse

animallikeyou · 26/12/2018 17:46

Yeahhh I had a problem like this with a neighbour. The police didn’t do anything about it sadly.

BluebellsareBlue · 26/12/2018 18:05

Can't believe all these people saying you can smoke what you like in your own home.... what planet are you people on. Possession is illegal, if your smoking it you are in possession. Didn't think that was so tough.
I couldn't give a rats shiny ass if it's "going" to be legalised, it's currently not.
OP phone and ask for an intelligence entry to be submitted every time you smell it. Note when it's strongest etc. Once there is enough corroborative intelligence the police can apply for a search warrant.

BluebellsareBlue · 26/12/2018 18:05

*youre - oops

BluebellsareBlue · 26/12/2018 18:06

Kerrist!! My phone hates me!! YOU'RE
