OP posts:
FrenchJunebug · 11/12/2018 16:37

does your Housing Association have a policy on anti social behaviour? If so make a complaint under it.

trulybadlydeeply · 11/12/2018 16:40

Thanks for clarifying it's drugs not animals, but I have every sympathy, I think an actual skunk would be a lot less hassle. Sad

As for the swearing, we're all adults on a forum for adults, and can choose to swear or not as we wish. There is swearing in the title, so I would suggest that this is a good indication that there is likely to be more swearing in the OPs posts. Anyone could scroll past if the want to.

WhokilledO2 · 11/12/2018 16:43

Have those calling out the op for swearing in a stressful situation which I can confirm is horrible to have to put up with even seen the Mumsnet tagline ?

to be really fucking sick of this.
AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 11/12/2018 16:44

If that is drugs then call the police!!

gallicgirl · 11/12/2018 16:51

YANBU at all, you should be able to have quiet enjoyment of your own home and this prevents it.

I remember when the law was relaxed a little and minor possession for personal use stopped being prosecuted so much. At that point, I wasn't fussed and didn't see too much of a problem but now it's endemic and I'd love to see the law tightened up again. It seems so many more people smoke stronger smelling weed in more places and more often. You can't walk down the street without smelling it at least once. I can even smell it as I'm driving and you know it's someone in a car near to you.

I don't know what the solution is other than to report to the HA and lobby them to make it a term of the tenancy that no-one smokes.

Graphista · 11/12/2018 16:51

I'm so sorry you're STILL having to deal with this.

It pisses me off that the laws on cannabis aren't enforced.

It MAY be legalised in the future but now it's illegal and as such HA, police should be dealing with this guy according to the law.

Are you friendly with other neighbours? Sometimes if a lot complain frequently that can motivate landlord up shift their arses.

As for "too sweary" it's mumsnet it's fucking famous for being sweary! Grin

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/12/2018 16:52

Sounds rubbish. In answer to the complaints about your language. No one is obliged to read a thread. Posters can choose to not click on the thread.

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/12/2018 16:53

It wouldnt be false reporting to say that you suspect he is growing it. The smell could well indicate that he is, and you are simply reporting your suspiscions. If it is a constant smell with no ebb and flow, then he could well be.

Squarepeg29 · 11/12/2018 16:55

HA must have a policy on this, you need to research it and then speak to someone with authority - not the phone monkey who’s just there to bat off calls. Do the HA not have a duty of care to their tenants?

Have a look under Environmental Health on your local council’s website too. If you’ve got a decent councillor get a meeting set up with them, they can kick ass.

greenpop21 · 11/12/2018 16:56

RSPCA !!! LOL!

RightYesButNo · 11/12/2018 16:57

@Russiawithlove I’m not sure where you got the idea that, though cannabis is still illegal in the UK with the exception of some medical usage starting 1 Nov, it would be legal to do it in your home? It’s not. The NHS site, the Wikipedia for cannabis in Britain, etc., all say it’s illegal everywhere, including one’s home. Let me know if you have a resource showing otherwise (would be very helpful!). So, as far as I can tell, OP would be well within her rights to call the police non-emergency number. Yes, certain areas’ police forces have said they will not target you unless your cannabis usage is “blatant,” but it sounds like OP’s neighbor’s usage IS blatant.

While I don’t like linking the Sun, I wanted to have a recent resource (7 Nov) on smoking weed still being illegal in your own home: www.thesun.co.uk/news/3444555/smoke-weed-cannabis-legal-uk-law-neighbours/
for OP to reference (and for any MNers who might smoke weed at home - just don’t be obvious).

OP, if they’re stopping your enjoyment of your home, at least try calling the police non-emergency to report them, and if that fails, Environmental Health as others have recommended. I’m sure most of us wouldn’t report someone smoking a bit, but this sounds as if it goes far beyond one or two harmless joints. I’m sorry this is happening to you!

Also, no idea what is with these people offering no advice except a whinge about the swearing. How ridiculous and sneering. Good post with screenshot, @WhoKilledO2. We’re all adults and OP is obviously under some stress and trying to get advice. Those judging OP should go to the parenting site where swearing is banned, if it bothers them so much.

LilMy33 · 11/12/2018 16:57

This has got to be one of the weirdest threads I’ve seen in a while. Several people saying to call the RSPCA and at least 3 moaning about the bad language Confused

For the record I’d be swearing too if my home stank of someone else’s skunk. I don’t know what to suggest OP but you have my sympathy. I don’t care if other people smoke it but I can’t stand the smell.

RightYesButNo · 11/12/2018 16:59

Crosspost with @Squarepeg29. Also, while I’m so sorry about OP’s stress, I’m absolutely crying at RSPCA. Grin

HelenaDove · 11/12/2018 17:05

id much rather he was keeping a skunk than smoking it.

Would like to thank everyone for their help support and suggestions. I didnt even think of Environmental Health Thanks

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 11/12/2018 17:07

we did have four weeks from late Oct to late Nov when we couldnt smell it at all. Then constant from 29 Nov

OP posts:
HelenaDove · 11/12/2018 17:08

previous to late Oct it was constant.

daffodillament · 11/12/2018 17:10

Gotta laugh at the posters grumbling about the swearing ! FFS..everything going on in the world and that's what gets their backs up ! What BOLLOCKS ! I love the freedom of saying what the fuck you like usually on MN ! Good luck sorting the skunkers Op ! Fucking bastards! Grin

Bowchicawowow · 11/12/2018 17:11

I can’t believe some posters thought the neighbour had a pet skunk Grin

Russiawithlove · 11/12/2018 17:13

What I meant was if the neighbour says he is smoking for personal use no action will be taken. Illegal or not.
If he is growing it then yes he would be prosecuted.
But you would have to supply video evidence of people coming in and out to support a claim of supplying.
Rightly or wrongly the police do not care.

Russiawithlove · 11/12/2018 17:25

Just noticed you mentioned the HA. The enviromental health will likely refer you back to them if it's not privately owned. It's the landlords responsibility which in this case is the HA. They will keep passing the buck. I don't know the answer .

Wordthe · 11/12/2018 17:43

id much rather he was keeping a skunk than smoking it
I know some people dislike the smell of cannabis but I'm pretty sure that the smell emitted from the glands of a skunk (the mammalian kind) is worse by orders of magnitude

RaymondHolt · 11/12/2018 18:39

The police were quick to act for us. We complained that it was antisocial behaviour and impacting on our children as it filled their bedrooms. If you have health issues then why wouldn't they do the same?

I don't understand why other posters are saying they won't do anything?

Villanelley · 12/12/2018 12:26

Not sure the RSPCA do drugs busts Villanelley.

It was a joke, sweetheart.

EmeraldShamrock · 12/12/2018 17:32

It definitely sounds like he is growing, with the time lapses.

TheDarkPassenger · 12/12/2018 17:48

Write it all down. Dates and times and how strong it smelled and then call environmental health.

If it smells every day or even 4/5 times a week and you ring the police every single time you will then be known as a HIU. Environmental health will get you much further! Hope you get it sorted soon
