If I'd had my eyes closed the school concert would have been great - a mix of super-talented, semi-talented and beginner musicians and singers showcasing their latest pieces. The problem is they all looked so miserable! I can only assume nobody has told them to smile and look like they're enjoying themselves. Surely that's a basic piece of fundamental advice, at least from the choir and singing group leader? Not all of them would follow it of course - there will always be a few nervous types - but surely it should be possible to get, say, 50% of the kids to look out into the audience and smile, rather than frowning into their hymn sheets? After all, this is secondary school - nobody is forced to take part. They've all volunteered to be there.
