F*@#ing Cockerel

We live in a residential area. 5 minutes to the nearest town. 15 to the major city. No farms. No fields.

About 2 weeks ago DP and I were awoken by what we thought was a crying baby. It didn't last long but it then happened sporadically over a few nights.

Last night 4:30am. It's not a baby. It's a sodding cockerel! It crowed constantly until 6am by which time I'd given in and got up.

It must be one of our neighbours opposite but I can't determine which one.

I like to sleep with the window open even in winter as I've got pretty sure sinuses but I'll have to close them if this carries on. 4:30am?! In the winter! Does that mean it'll be earlier in the summer?!

WIBU to find the sodding thing and serve it for Christmas dinner?

One night of this has rendered me irrational...

Errm you're not our neighbour are you . . ? Because we have a cockerel who does crow in the mornings - more of a wailing than a proper crowing! Blush I do worry about the neighbours opposite! That said, we live in a rural village surrounded by farms, town five minutes away like you, and have noticed at least one other neighbour who has one. We never would have knowingly got one, but they're hard to sex as chicks and we thought we were buying four hens, until one of them started crowing one morning and is now a massive cockerel! Shock We couldn't face taking him back as we knew he'd probably be killed Sad

I feel for you. We rented a place last summer that had a bloody cockerel nearby. I spent 10 VERY early mornings plotting the best, most violent poultry murder... do it!

oh dear! I have been considering getting a rescue cockerel to go with my 7 hens - maybe not! My neighbours are lovely, and I don't want to upset them (although there are lots of boys looking for homes).
