Or at least the beginning of the end, Labour and SNP..... there’s a match made in heaven Shock

I've never learned so much about the intricacies of law-making as I have in the last few months and I'm still none the wiser as to what's going to happen. I personally have my fingers tightly crossed that the whole Brexit deal just disappears in a puff of smoke though...

Satsumaeater · 10/12/2018 13:59

If we had had a Labour-SNP coalition in 2015 we wouldn't be in this mess that's for sure. Possibly in quite a different mess but not a Brexit one.

I can't see May's deal getting through now although originally I thought it would because I didn't think any MP could look at their constituents and vote for no deal with a clear conscience (except JRM and my MP - and Kate Hoey). But no deal isn't the only option now - either cancelling Brexit or staying in the EEA are also very much on the table.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 10/12/2018 14:03

"Britain faces a simple and inescapable choice - stability and strong government with me, or chaos with Ed Milliband". Grin

followed by "strong and stable".

Tartpop · 10/12/2018 14:04

It's like a really bad soap opera that I'm watching reluctantly through my fingers!!!

jophie80 · 10/12/2018 14:12

I hope this is the end of Brexit... the entire process has been a revolution of a sort by the English people, but sadly lacking a leader, a plan how to execute Brexit, and importantly lacking a single vision (there are a myriad reasons for Brexit, that is a real problem for Brexiters).

For me we need to start to have a serious discussion about what the EU is, why it was created and why it benefits every single person in the UK to have a united Europe. the EU was a British creation. Children should be taught at school about the EU, it is high time we understand that cooperation, in terms of environmental policy, food regulation, regulation of drugs, in addition to as an Eurapean union increased bargaining power when it comes to negotiating trade deals; is for the betterment of all EU citizens including the English.
The Empire is dead, the colonies no longer belong to England nor are they available for exploitation. People, especially the English upper classes need to realise that England today is small fry globally outside the EU; the days of stealing from the colonies, murdering people in their millions, and singly profiteering from it all is long dead

Cranky17 · 10/12/2018 14:12

I don’t understand why it’s positive? TM will be sacked and we’ll end up with Rhys Morgan as pm. Brexit will happen, the Conservative party will be not be the party that doesn’t follow the will of the people. That would be political suicide. They started this shit storm

superstarburst · 10/12/2018 14:20

Who is Rhys Morgan? Grin
He might do a better job

scaryteacher · 10/12/2018 14:24

Jophie80 The Empire is dead

You need to rephrase that. The British Empire is dead, the EU empire is beginning to emerge.

LucilleBluth · 10/12/2018 14:26

I had a dream last night that Boris was PM, serves me right for reading the Sunday Times in bed.

bellinisurge · 10/12/2018 14:31

Nope. But it might mean a fresh referendum on Scottish independence. I imagine Nicola Sturgeon is playing both sides.

MardyArabella · 10/12/2018 14:38

I just don’t want any more votes. I want it to all go away and not have to vote in anything for a good four years.

BinRaidingRaccoon · 10/12/2018 14:39

I like the sound of Rhys Morgan too.

jophie80 · 10/12/2018 14:44

The emerging Empire is CHINA, the USA is on a downward slope and bitter by the sounds of if, if you listen to Trump.
The USA is the first country to undergo de-industrialisation, and some states are now on the verge of becoming fully fledged developing countries (if you could compare US states like that with developing nations).
SO a united Europe, is one way for European nationals to stay relevant globally. Sadly we have seen Empires come and Empires go... the same will come for European nations. In essence it is already here, although we are at the start, if you live anywhere apart from a Western country you will clearly see the influence and power of China, and not all of it bad; as a global citizen I don't feel sad. I understand that change is inevitable. And the EU is changing, those of us fairly young and educated will leave England come hard Brexit and seek a better life Europe, or in Asia. Some of my friends in London have already immigrated to Canada (no joke with their wives and children), others live in Asia and see no reason to return home. So who will look after the elderly and the poor in England?

MardyArabella · 10/12/2018 14:45

Is Rhys Morgan a portmanteau for Jacob reese moth and piers Morgan?

If that’s the case I want them nowhere near no 10.

Dongdingdong · 10/12/2018 14:48

I have no idea whatsoever anymore - but I'm concerned that with all this back and forth, March 29th will roll around and with no resolution in sight, we will just crash out of the EU with no deal at all. It's less than four months away FFS! Could that happen?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 10/12/2018 14:51

Tell me more about Jacob Reese moth. He sounds like he might do an OK job.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 10/12/2018 14:56

#Jacob reese moth* Grin He sounds worse than Rhys Morgan

MissSusanScreams · 10/12/2018 14:59

Make it all go away. That’s what I want. I can’t be the only one. Fuck the revolution it was a straw man in any case.

superstarburst · 10/12/2018 15:01

I would be worried there would be a few holes in Rees Moth's policies Wink

alwaysthepessimist · 10/12/2018 15:05

Whoever is in charge has been handed a poisoned chalice - David played an absolute blinder, everyone banged on for a referendum, he gave in & gave it then as soon as the result came in he walked off into the sunset and left the whole sorry mess for someone else to sort out. No matter who is left (and I can't see May lasting the next 48 hours tbh) hasn't a hope in hell of pleasing anyone with whatever the deal is or isn't - the first campaign was built on lies (that was proven) but if they have a second one what's to say that won't be too...so what do we do? Stay/Go...something has to be done & I am bloody glad it isn't me having to sort the shitstorm out - you couldn't pay me enough money to even attempt it - if I was May I think I would be writing my resignation letter now & asking the Queen to dissolve parliament, have a flash general election & whoever gets in gets to sort it out & be hated & blamed forever more for screwing the people over.....

MardyArabella · 10/12/2018 15:10

Oh ffs 🤦🏼‍♀️ None of us can get his name right

Lizzie48 · 10/12/2018 16:11

Sadly I'm not surprised by any of this. No one was allowed to ask any serious questions about what Brexit would look like in practice; it was blindingly obvious that the border issue between Northern Ireland and the Republic would be a problem. But the Brexiteers just called it 'Project Fear.

Cameron is also to blame for calling the referendum in the first place, but so is Corbyn for not showing any leadership to his own party during the referendum.

I think there is a strong case for another referendum, as a lot of voters really didn't understand the issues back in 2016. But the last one was such a dirty campaign that I really don't want it to happen.

RangeRider · 10/12/2018 16:31

If we don't get Brexit then democracy has ended too.

bellinisurge · 10/12/2018 16:34

Nope @RangeRider . I think you need to look at what a Parliamentary democracy is. In the unlikely event that Brexit is paused, nothing to stop a mainstream party from offering Brexit again and people voting them into power. What with us being a democracy and that .

DanglyBangly · 10/12/2018 16:37

The only way Brexit will be ended is if there’s another referendum and the very idea of that is plagued by problems. And IMO be pointless as you will get the same result. I see no solid evidence that 1.2 million people have changed their minds.

We can have a no confidence vote, she could resign, we could have a general election but none of that will change the fact that it’s this deal or no deal. It would all be a massive waste of time and not change our position.
