why would a police car be driving very slowly with blue lights flashing

We were driving home and saw a police car in the distance with it's blue lights flashing but sirens off. Unusually it was driving very slowly, about 10mph as it drove towards us and after it had gone past.

Any ideas why they'd be going so slowly?

Looking for someone?

CrazyDuchess · 09/12/2018 20:49

Looking for someone? Deterrent?

bookmum08 · 09/12/2018 20:50

Looking for someone who has been reported missing or injured?

NutCrackerSuite · 09/12/2018 20:50

I'd assume looking for someone or something.

Maelstrop · 09/12/2018 20:52

Looking for an address, maybe.

JustABetterPlayer · 09/12/2018 20:53

They where very slowly running over a delinquent on a moped.

SlowNorris · 09/12/2018 20:54

Hedgehog convict on the loose 🦔

brizzledrizzle · 09/12/2018 20:56

Maybe looking for somebody but it was on a strange road to be doing that - a quiet town centre road on a Sunday night that was very brightly lit up.

Grin at the moped idea - hopefully the local takeaway delivery people aren't out on the road much tonight!

Carrying someone inside who's drunk and likely to throw up?

brizzledrizzle · 09/12/2018 20:57

I did wonder if they had a casualty on board but they were taking a very roundabout route to the police station/hospital if they were.

They could be drinking hot coffee. Don’t want that in their lap! Grin

ZorbaTheHoarder · 09/12/2018 20:58

Could they have been slowly running out of petrol? Maybe?

countrybunny · 09/12/2018 21:01

Helping someone find them.

Could be that they were doing a rolling stop (Or whatever it's called)? They might have been clearing debris in the road up ahead and needed to slow down traffic going towards it.

CrazyOldBagLady · 09/12/2018 21:05

I once saw the police block the road like this when there was a dog on the motorway, they were sort of herding it along.

Blobbyweeble · 09/12/2018 21:07

They will be looking for someone or for an address. I often end up driving slowly on blues (ambulance not police)looking for an address or a person. Lights are there to warn people that I might have to stop suddenly and that I am driving in an unusual manner ie very slowly. Blue lights are not all about speed.

mindutopia · 09/12/2018 21:09

Going to get a sandwich? I regularly get nearly run off the road by police, admittedly going very quickly, with blue lights on, on the way to our local Tesco. Then when I get there, I see then parked up and inside picking up a meal deal. It happens frequently enough that it’s now become a joke and we know our local detectives on sight!

Elphie54 · 09/12/2018 21:11

Looking for someone or something. Trying to find an address. There can be numerous reasons.

juls1888 · 09/12/2018 21:11

Juggling their coffee in one hand and a donut in the other.....? #lighthearted, before I get jumped on 🙈

Justmuddlingalong · 09/12/2018 21:14

Round here they would have ordered a Chinese takeaway, and are going to pick it up at a certain time.
