To think cats are thieving ninjas

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love our two cats, but they can be such little terrors. The one cat is 5 and the other is estimated to be about 5 months (he was found in machine warehouse as a baby baby so they don’t know for sure his age). Before we had the kitten, we had anoth cat who was the same age as the older one, but sadly she passed from an aggressive form of intestinal cancer in October. Our cat was devesated watching his best friend decline and then die (she died in the house in the middle of the night and he started howling), so we adopted the kitten.

Holy crow-I forgot just how energetic kittens are and he seems to influence the older guy to get involved in his mischief. They are both little thieves, never leave food out unless you want it to be cat snack. Today the one jumped on the counter to steal ham from a sandwich and give some to the other.

Holiday decorations? More like make shift cat toys. Made the mistake of keeping bedroom open and this morning the Christmas tree me owed at me. The kitten could get up but not down.

We have a dog who is a guest for right now, and both cats Williams walk up to his food bowl and steal his food. He just sits down like”hey! That was mine!”

2 weeks ago I found the kitten in a cupboard when I opened it to get a glass.

Any one else have thieving ninja cats?

My 2 were utter terrors when they were kittens - 2.5 years now and hasn't got massively better tbh - they can just jump higher and are heavier. They managed to shut themselve in the kitchen one day when DH and I were at work (my bad - usually shut the door but forgot). We got home, couldn't find them and then went into the kitchen to find they'd pulled the kitchen towel and hand towels onto the floor, shredded the lot and made a nest. Fast asleep! Many times we've come home and thought we'd been burgled the place was in chaos. They can't be left alone while running a bath as will help themselves to a cheeky swim. Swear they learn new tricks from each other.....

One of my cats can open doors, found out she has been letting herself in next door and sleeping on their bed!

WeirdAndPissedOff · 09/12/2018 17:20

I think you just see the cuteness with kittens, and forgot what little monsters they really are!
One of ours is 4 now, and still hasn't really grown out of it yet. (Though she has mellowed somewhat).

Christmas trees, food, toes, furniture -nothing is safe! And she's definitely a bad influence on the other cats. Not to mention uprooting the sleeping arrangements due to claiming a 5 bed cat tree for herself. (Any cat so much as looking at it gets tails/ankles/balls nipped and a bop in the face).

But between them we've had "stolen": food (lots of), baby's toys which have been claimed by cats, older DC's teddies, decorations, pens, parts for furniture and white goods which have never since been fully assembled, underwear, and a freshly BBQ'd pork chop which we think came from next door this summer. Blush

One of mine got in the fridge stupid child of mine didnt notice and shut the door i heard faint miowing after awhile opened the fridge there is the cat cold but unhurt sat next to my ham which was definitely nibbled on thank God I heard him Sad

In an act of cosmic revenge, we used to have a hedgehog living in the garden. During the summer it used to wander into the kitchen, barge the cats out of the way and tuck into their dinner. The look of frustrated rage on their faces was hilarious

My cat is 8 now but even as a kitten he was really staid Smile he has his moments but not even a bauble off the Christmas tree this year.

I've always owned cats and some of them have been absolute tinkers.

One of my cats had a thing for nappy pins(c.1975 before decent disposables).
They kept disappearing Confused and they didn't come cheap.
It was only when we had a big clear out before moving house that we found about 25 pins buried under the big carpet in the room where (I will name her even though she will be outed) Susan puss cat Maras spent most of her lazy arse life.
We did love her though,.Xmas Smile

Just thought.
Anyone thinking of catthiefkeith ?

Calvinsmam · 09/12/2018 17:45

My cat ate the stone out of my engagement ring.

Right in front of me.

I have five and out of that I have two food thieves and one outright thief who will take anything that’s not nailed down. He stole £50 I left out for like 10 seconds while I put my shoes on (was supposed to pay for my hair cut), he takes clothes that aren’t put away, soft toys is a favourite, he started taking the letters the postie had put through the door so I had to get a letter cage 😂 Any scrap of paper lying around actually. Pens, tea-towels, drinking straws—he takes everything upstairs and hides them in his play tunnel. To what end, who knows? And he’s four years old!! They don’t necessarily grow out of this 😂 He’s lucky I love him!

Calvinsmam · 09/12/2018 17:59

My Mother moved her rats cage into the kitchen whilst she was cleaning and they worked together to reach through the cage bars and pull a cheque for £100 from the electricity company off the fridge and shred it to make a bed.
It took her ages to work out where it had gone.

bookmum08 · 09/12/2018 18:10

I hope you are filming it all for YouTube. I wanna see kittens stuck up Christmas trees...

TressiliansStone · 09/12/2018 18:13

Yes, maras, just last week.

I hope her family are managing to keep on keeping on. Worse at this time of year, of course.

maras2 · 09/12/2018 18:39
