Advice on record player

Anyone know anything about record players? My son wants one, I'm deciding between ION audio Air LP turntable and Audio Technical AT LP60 USB fully automatic.... I have no idea what the difference is or what I'm looking for... He has asked for the second one but it is slightly dearer so hoping the first one is as good? Help please.

It sort of depends how old he is, what else he has and what he wants to use it for.

I have a Sony one, for digitising vinyl.

And I have a Rega for playing vinyl. It is attached to a very expensive set of Denon separates and some mind blowing speakers.

But anyone who listens via headphones won't need the same kit.

Curious - Thanks, he just wants to listen to vinyl through speakers and occasionally headphones.

Just bear in mind they probably only have a pre-amp which means you will need either a separate amp or powered speakers to be able to actually hear the output (or bluetooth speaker if bt enabled).

Vinyl is a different world to digital music. Does he appreciate he will need to (get up and) physically move the arm to change song, clean the record, put them away carefully to avoid scratching, can't listen to the music in the car.......

He will be very disappointed if he/you can only afford basic kit.. if he is intending to be a proper audiophile Smile

The two you have listed are similar, both digitise and can be bluetoothed, but I have no idea how tinny they will sound, how much sound suppression they will have, etc.

His/your best bet would be to go into Richer Sound or similar and talk to the staff, listen to the different decks and see which he prefers... it ends up being down to the ears of the individual, as my DH found when we bought our speakers!
