After all the information and the publicity about global warning but bbc tv says tonight that no freebie rocher pacaging can be recycled and if you look at their web site you can see their extensive palm oil plantations which are destroying native forests killing rate species and reducing uptake of co2. What planet are they o their pricucts in my opinion a mate vial and so are their corporate ethics. For our children’s and my grandchildren’s sake AVOID them. Horriblhorrible uncaring explotative bast**ds

Eh?

Neverender · 07/12/2018 21:41

They're gross anyway!

ShatnersBassoon · 07/12/2018 21:43

Oh, I so hoped this was a Baby Names thread when I saw the title Sad

BarbaraofSevillle · 07/12/2018 21:59

M&S operetta look tasty, by contain palm Oil as well

Don't waste your money, they're shite.

I'm a bit of a chocolate snob but Ferrero rocher are pretty much the only mass market cheap chocolates that I like. Lidl version good too.

I know I should be boycotting palm oil, but it's all too complicated. Is sustainable OK? And sometimes, production of a 'cash crop' provides a valuable income to poor people in a developing country so boycotting their crop leaves them destitute.

But then again, sometimes they're too busy growing the cash crop for richer nations that they're unable to grow their own food and there's also the food miles, co2 issue.

Or its a few Mr bigs that get rich while the rest of the population starves and comfortable westerners like me just think 'aaaagh I have no idea what I should be doing' and just buy what I want to eat the most.

ollhe · 08/12/2018 22:24

birdsgottafly unfortunately I don’t doubt this.
But I did think that the RSPO was a reputable source. However that is through limited research of my own.

It’s a terrible world we live in Sad

AGHHHH · 08/12/2018 22:26

Are you pissed?

Why are you intentionally spelling Ferrero Rocher differently every single time? 😂

M3lon · 08/12/2018 22:29

Thanks for highlighting that OP. I was considering some and I'll find something without the palm oil instead.

MorningsEleven · 08/12/2018 22:31

You lost me with the conspiracy theory.

longwayoff · 08/12/2018 22:39

Horrible things. The ambassador needs a new caterer.

DaphneDiligaf · 08/12/2018 22:40

I personally can take or leave Ferrera Roche, think maybe I'll leave them now.

brizzledrizzle · 08/12/2018 22:48

Which is no hardship as they are just balls of cat litter in cooking chocolate.

^^ This. I never could come up with a suitable description for the foul taste but this is nearly perfect - can I just add cat 'surrounded by recycled toilet roll tubes' after cat litter and it'll sum up my feelings perfectly.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 08/12/2018 22:58
  • No such thing.

Cadbury claims the same.*

Do you not agree that completing ceasing to use palm oil would cause further deforestation, as all comparable oils take much longer to grow and would therefore need to be planted in a wider area?

The sustainable palm oil system is by no means anywhere near perfect; but it's the best option that we have at the moment as far as I'm aware.

MrsJayy · 10/12/2018 14:08

I think if you want to read about palm oil sustainability chester zoo have a great blog about it but i get people are very torn on it they think their own thing about it but imo it isn't going to go away palm trees in indonesia and brazil keep people and families alive working on plantations is their income.

Whocansay · 10/12/2018 14:16

FFS. I love them. Will see if I can find a version that doesn't contain palm oil.

I don't understand WHY we have so much packaging generally. It's in no-one's interest, (apart from each company's marketing department) and is totally destructive. I thought companies were supposed to be reducing it, but it seems as bad as ever. It seems to have slipped down the agenda.
