A women (a) in a parent run group of which my family is a part is attempting to silence a discussion about safeguarding in the group. She is extremely intimidating and manipulative and says that it was illegal for another member (b) to discuss with her friend (c) who is also the group's chair, an incident in which a's son coerced b's children who are 2 years younger into performing sexual acts. This woman (a) does not accept that her son's behaviour was problematic. However, she is so intimidating that many members of the group are scared of this threatened legal action. I can't think on what possible basis this could be illegal? You can't tell anyone your child has been abused? For slander you have to prove material damages which is clearly not the case. I am usually rational and level headed but my mind is being fucked by this crazy woman (who is also an extremely charming manipulator and possible psychopath and so is very difficult to challenge publically)
And I need an external perspective Help!

Not illegal.

Sorry, pressed post too soon. YANBU, it’s not illegal for the victim’s mum to share this info with the chair if she wishes. Be very careful though - the chair can’t tgen share this info with people except those who must know from a safeguarding perspective. And then you might need a risk assessment and measures in place to manage the whole situation. I don’t know much but suspect the GDPR will be relevant in terms of what info is stored and how it is shared within the group.

Thanks. A herself shared the information with another committee member. And then when a safeguarding discussion was begun within the committee with no names or specifics mentioned - a herself outed b and herself.
