To wonder why I'm even getting periods when I have a mirena coil??

Why, when I have a mirena coil am I getting blooming periods?? The first 18 months or so were fab. I didn't have any periods at all. I had the occasional spotting and that was it. I had a cervical screening test done a few months, the threads got caught around the swab but the nurse said she'd sorted it out. Since then without fail my periods have come back full whack. At first I was really worried that maybe the coil had become dislodged but they checked and it's still in the right place. Yesterday my period came again and it's made me feel a hormonal mess. Why am I getting periods?! Why would they just come back after a year and a half of nothing?? Surely one of the benefits of a mirena is no periods! Xmas Sad Xmas Angry

I never stopped having periods with mine. Towards the end I was having two weeks on and two weeks off. Nightmare.

Wow no idea, but I haven't had a period in over 16 yrs thanks to mirena, I had a few months off due to ttc dd2 then had mirena back in no issues at all. Due to expire in January and due to my age asked the nurse at my smear if they would give me another(I'll be nearly 48) but she said yes as it can also help with menopause symptoms bit like hrt.

Mine never stopped. Had it in for 3 years now.

I had to get mine removed as my periods became ridiculously heavy after it was fitted. Guess it just works differently for different people
