Why do celebrities never seem to get stretch marks?

This isn’t a criticism, as I know everyone is different and they look great.

But I watch the Mummy Dairies and Sam, Billie, Ferne etc. all look amazing in bikinis. There are no stretch marks whatsoever. Same with a lot of other Insta accounts/ celebs etc.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who’s stomach got completely ruined by pregnancy. I could exercise (and stop eating biscuits) to improve it but I have a lot of stretch marks that will never go away. I don’t think I could ever wear a bikini again.

Just a bit envious!

I have stretchmarks from growth spurts as a teenager but my stomach seems to have survived my first pregnancy (and to date my current pregnancy) without getting any stretchmarks. My boobs though are a a completely different story!

I'm a size 14/16, I've never had a flat stomach but I 'sprung back' to my usual size within a week of giving birth, in fact I weighed less one week post partum than before I fell pregnant but I suffered quite badly with morning sickness throughout my pregnancy and didn't really gain any weight. Even now at 38 weeks I can still fit in a lot of my normal clothes. My sister also escaped stretchmarks but our dm is a different story, she has loads.

My sister got stretch marks and I was shocked when I saw it. So I used creams/oils to prevent it everyday of my pregnancy days. I didn't get any.

katekat383 · 06/12/2018 12:43

Photoshopping.

LuckyDiamond · 06/12/2018 12:47

I don’t have them on my belly from pregnancy but I have them on my arse from teenage years. Difference was I used Clarins tonic oil and Palmers cocoa butter day and night respectively throughout my pregnancies (gained 4 stone then lost each time)

Monty27 · 06/12/2018 12:49

I've had 3 children and don't have a mark.
I am very far from being a celebrity.
It's either luck or fancy photography I guess.

WellGoshDarnIt · 06/12/2018 13:08

It is mainly genetics I'm afraid. My mum had 4 pregnancies and doesn't have a single stretch mark. She also (allegedly) walked out of the hospital each time after giving birth in size 10 jeans. I've only had one pregnancy, but I was absolutely huge (excessive fluid). I don't have any stretch marks either. It's the luck of the draw.

user789653241 · 06/12/2018 19:23

Not sure if it's genetics. My sister and myself was similar shape/skin type, both slim, and had a quite big baby, so huge tummy. My sister didn't do anything to prevent it seriously. She used some creams but not like I did.
Me on the other hand, I did it like crazy, after seeing my sister's stretch mark. Used all the stuff recommended and heard it was good. End result was, that I got none.
I assumed it was the reason why celebrities don't get them. They do take extreme care not to get the stretch marks.

Xuli l love that pic of Cindy Crawford! I wish there were more realistic images in the media of bodies post birth. I know some people look the same ( it seems a lot of Mumsnetters have escaped stretch mark free!) but I think the stupid post baby body bikini stuff you see is so unrealistic!

My SIL has had 3 kids and has zero stretch marks.

I've had no children and have stretch marks on my thighs and stomach

Just the luck of the draw

LisaSimpsonsbff · 07/12/2018 09:02

irvine you seem very invested and a bit smug about the fact that you did it 'right' unlike your sister, but studies have shown that no creams or oil make any difference. Which is why I didn't bother with them, and still got no stretch marks on my stomach. Because it's luck.

OohBabyBabeh · 07/12/2018 09:08

I didn't have any stretch marks after pregnancy yet I have stretch marks on my bum and boobs from puberty - and I'm a size 8! I think it is just down to luck and genes sometimes. Obviously there are laser treatments out there to tone the belly after childbirth which they can all afford.

knittedjest · 07/12/2018 09:34

Tummy tuck. That's where all my stretch marks have gone anyway.

Notso · 07/12/2018 11:09

irvine that's rubbish IME, almost all my stretch marks are from my first pregnancy. I used so much oil and cream I'm surprised there wasn't a trail behind me!
I didn't gain a single pound, in fact I lost nearly 2 stone due to sickness.
I used nothing in my subsequent three pregnancies one of which was polyhydramneous so bump was gigantic measuring 70cm at 36 weeks pg. No more starch marks.

user789653241 · 07/12/2018 11:28

I am not invested, It was so long ago anyway, so long gone thing for me. Just saying, that if you do something, you maybe able to prevent it. And yes, I used a lot of creams and oils. And I've read it really doesn't matter if they use expensive ones or cheap ones. Only thing it matters is to use plenty. And it worked. Just wanted to share it with people who are worried about stretch marks now.

JudgeyMuch · 07/12/2018 11:31

Weirdly I got no stretchmarks from my pregnancy, but have LOADS from puberty (thighs, hips, arms, boobs) but none on my tummy.

Was never slim either.

Nature is weird.

user789653241 · 07/12/2018 11:50

Another thing I noticed is the difference in resources and techniques in different places. My ds had a major surgery but his scar is almost invisible. It was done at specialist hospital in London with top notch surgeons. My c-section scar is very visible. Celebrities can spend money on things us normal people can't. So I can understand why they can have better body than us.

Unobtainable · 21/12/2018 10:12

Celebrities use airbrush video apps, a bit like Snapchat but professional quality or cameras with special features which airbrush the skin while leaving the features unairbrushed. Most TV and video now airbrushes the skin due to HD being prevalent. Before HD, celeb videos used to be airbrushed frame-by-frame.

It's also down to genetics. I've never been pregnant and am a slim and fit size 10 but I've got stretch marks, as have my sister and mother. It's skin type (fair, thin).

Finally, celebrities have all kinds of cosmetic procedures to look like they do (pre-term C-sections, tummy tucks, mummy makeovers, lasers, ultrasonic, endermology treatments etc.) as well as dieting and exercising like mad.

jobbymcginty · 21/12/2018 10:13

i don't have any strech marks either after 2 babies but i never really got a big bump as i suffered HG ,however i'm now fatter than i was when i gave birth

Parques · 21/12/2018 10:13

I have none after two large babies. But, trained as a ballet dancer in my younger days and still have stomach muscles like steel!

DioVelazquez · 21/12/2018 10:26

You can use makeup and editing techniques on videos just like you can on pictures.

Mybigmessyhair · 21/12/2018 10:28

What every single 1 of them?
They get their skin tightened up and zapped with laser treatments esp celebs who had c sections.

OneTiredMomma · 21/12/2018 10:32

Aww, I feel like this sometimes. My stomach looks like Freddy Krugers had a go at me lol It'd take a good surgeon and a sacrifice to the gods to "fix" it. Even when I lose the baby weight there's a lot of excess, wrinkled skin that's lost its elasticity, but I'm just not bothered by it enough to go down the nip and tuck route. I do find that it goes back very gradually and the stretch marks fade a lot over time.

I really wouldn't mind a boob lift and reduction though at some point, I find myself slouching a lot and I'm sure it's because of my boobs. Blush Even with properly fitted bras, there's just too much weight in them and they get in the way. Hmm

I think a lot of these celebs are just either airbrushed or have great genes. xx

DioVelazquez · 21/12/2018 10:38

This thread is a good example of the damage you can do to your self-esteem by following celebrities and instagram influencers etc.

Especially if you're eyes aren't open to how fake it all is.

MidniteScribbler · 21/12/2018 10:39

I'm about as far from an Instagram celeb as you could get (don't even have an account), but I have no stretch marks. Just lucky, I guess.

Elfinablender · 21/12/2018 10:42

Three babies, no stretch marks, no creams, only exercise if I am being chased.
