Why do celebrities never seem to get stretch marks?

This isn’t a criticism, as I know everyone is different and they look great.

But I watch the Mummy Dairies and Sam, Billie, Ferne etc. all look amazing in bikinis. There are no stretch marks whatsoever. Same with a lot of other Insta accounts/ celebs etc.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who’s stomach got completely ruined by pregnancy. I could exercise (and stop eating biscuits) to improve it but I have a lot of stretch marks that will never go away. I don’t think I could ever wear a bikini again.

Just a bit envious!

i had twins and not a single stretch mark i have very old faded ones on my thighs growing so who knows how they work.

paige789 · 06/12/2018 10:01

@LilySays sun beds helps stretch marks !

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/12/2018 10:03

I’d rather have stretch marks than use sun beds.

Namestheyareachangin · 06/12/2018 10:04

You're not the only one! I was ruined by pregnancy, but honestly, they do fade! I'm not quite bikini ready yet (too many biscuits) - but I no longer look down and want to cry (AND I had a c-section so have the droop to contend with!).

TBH once you're elbow deep into motherhood (my little one is nearly 2) you'll give much less of a shit about it. It's nice to look nice but it's really not important in the true sense of the word. I mean I was never very beautiful so never very vain ("a modest woman with much to be modest about", to paraphrase Grin), which helps a lot - but honestly any shit I ever gave about 'how I look' beyond 'clean and smart' (and with a toddler, that's no easy ask!) I have entirely redeployed elsewhere in my limited shit-giving budget.

TBH the only person whose opinion of me matters much these days is her. And she doesn't give a monkey's about stretch marks Grin.

papooshka · 06/12/2018 10:05

I think its genetic. I've had 2 babies and no stretch marks at all on my tummy.

bobstersmum · 06/12/2018 10:05

I think it's luck of the draw! With my first, I was enormous, I got not a single mark. Really lucky and quite smug I was. Second, got a few, still not too bothered, third, absolutely wrecked my stomach, stretch marks, and stretched my lower tummy so much as she sat so low for most of my pregnancy, that I have been left with a loose pouch and I have never had a csec. I am fit and toned everywhere else!

Namestheyareachangin · 06/12/2018 10:05

And yes I bio-oiled like a bastard too.. rip off. It's luck of the fucking draw, no more and no less!

GroundhogWeek · 06/12/2018 10:06

Camera filters, good angles, air brushing, fake tan, laser treatment.....or in some cases sheer good luck!

hammeringinmyhead · 06/12/2018 10:09

I think it's the same good genes that made them pretty/attractive enough to be celebrities in the first place.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 06/12/2018 10:12

you see a lot of celebs on tv/ Instagram videos which aren’t airbrushed

Some of them are airbrushed - it's perfectly possible to airbrush video - but also lighting, angles, spray on tans and even painted on make-up all make a big difference

OhComeOnRon · 06/12/2018 10:15

Just luck like all us non celebs - I've never had any stretch marks and my stomach returned to its normal flat self after having a baby (not very quickly but eventually)

The celebs that get them are either a) not flaunting their stomachs all over the place or b) paying to get rid

muddypuddle2018 · 06/12/2018 10:17

Everyone saying 'it's airbrushing, lasers etc.' As if everyone who's had a baby is automatically covered in stretch marks and if you're not you must have done something Confused
Everyone's different some people are just lucky. If you saw a 'non' celebrity on Instagram who had had a baby and didn't have any stretch marks would you automatically assume they had airbrushed/edited the photo or had laser treatment? Nope!
FWIW - nearly 9lb chunk born May, no stretch marks just lucky and good genes - no airbrush or lasers here Hmm

strawberrisc · 06/12/2018 10:17

Tell that to Kim Kardashian's uncensored backside.

tommypie · 06/12/2018 10:19

Everyone's different. I got stretch marks on my boobs while pregnant but none on my stomach. I put on loads of weight while pregnant but lost it all pretty quickly (tanks breastfeeding) and now have really defined abs. My skin isn't as tight as it was but I can't complain - I look better than before I was pregnant, and no surgery or treatments involved.

SprusselBrout · 06/12/2018 10:19

Knowing how genetically predisposed i am (thighs, hips, breasts and upper arms looked like they had been ripped to shreds after rapid weight gain), i dont think i could ever face getting pregnant unless some form of cosmetic surgery afterwards was an option. I’m not a good-looking woman to begin with and i think having a wrinkly, sagging stomach would just feel too unfair.

DerelictWreck · 06/12/2018 10:22

@paige789

Sunbeds also give you cancer Hmm

HappenstanceMarmite · 06/12/2018 10:23

I’ve always cursed my oily skin, but I believe it came in handy when pregnant as I don’t have stretch marks on belly. But...I question the tight, totally flat bellies of celebs and I do think tummy tucks are the reason. Except for very toned athletes eg Paula Radcliffe. How the hell can Katie Price have an ironing board tummy after FOUR (or is it five now?) kids?! 🤔

LilySays · 06/12/2018 10:25

I guess a lot of women just don’t get them then. I think maybe I have bad genes or I’m just unlucky. No one in my NCT group has mentioned having the same problem.

I did get to about 36 weeks with only a few on my hips, I was smug... then at 38 weeks I just woke up one day completely covered.

tasharichford · 06/12/2018 10:25

I definitely think it's genetic. My mum is 5ft and was a size 6 before having me she was massive and I weighed 9lb 11 at birth. She has no stretch marks. I've had two babies was size 6-8 pre pregnancy, first baby was 8lb 13 and second 9lb 8. I didn't get stretch marks and didn't use anything on bump (lazy). I'm now 33 weeks pregnant with number 3 and so far so good but I also know they could come at any point even after birth x

cigarettessuffragettesandboys · 06/12/2018 10:26

I think it’s about 50/50 for who gets stretch marks and who doesn’t. I don’t have any or loose skin but I didn’t put on more than the recommended weight during pregnancy, I exercised regularly before pregnancy and more significantly, I have good genes. None of the women in my family have stretch marks. Don’t get me wrong I had to work really hard to lose my pregnancy weight but once I had my stomach looked good again.

If you look at Sam and Billies mum she has no stretch marks either and looks great - I think the celebrities that get stretch marks tend to cover up more.

cigarettessuffragettesandboys · 06/12/2018 10:28

Also someone mentioned oily skin - I have such oily skin!! Meant I had terrible acne as a teenager and even some problem spots in my early 20s and I hated it - but I think it has a lot to do with not getting stretch marks

CryingMessFFS · 06/12/2018 10:29

SprusselBrout it is still luck really - I got stretch marks on my hips, boobs, thighs, even a few behind my knees as I grew as a teenager so I thought I’d get loads when I was pregnant. I got precisely 1 stretch mark under my bump and that was at the end of my second pregnancy. I thought I’d have loads because I seem to be predisposed to them but you really can’t tell if you’ll get them on your bump beforehand or not

OlderThanAverageforMN · 06/12/2018 10:30

I think it is genetics too. My mum doesn't have any, and neither do I, even though I am very fair, with fine skin, but she is Italian, so maybe I get some of those good skin genes from her. She is 90, and looks about 60, here's hoping.

nonamesareavailable · 06/12/2018 10:31

I didn't get any and neither did my mum. I think it's just good luck. Although I did slather on expensive ESPA oil twice a day!

Skyecat · 06/12/2018 10:31

I have no children, but after putting on weight rapidly when I was depressed I got deep stretch marks on my stomach. I had a course of laser surgery and I don't think it made any difference, aside from maybe speeding up the red to white fading process. They don't look any flatter or less noticeable than other people's untreated ones.
