I really like this one (I know its cottage pie but you could just use lamb instead of beef) mainly because of the cheese element!

I’ve got one in the oven right now, and it’s going to be DELICIOUS

Fry onion and garlic add mince optional extras like mushrooms/carrots chopped small/tomatoes/herbs add some stock if you like or soy sauce spread in casserole tray, mash some spuds, add some sweet spuds if you want to get fancy, spread over mince then - this is the important bit - drag fork over surface dot with butter put in oven until hot and brown, combination of ridges and butter will create CRISPNESS!

You can add grated cheese to top (controversial).
Make a veggie/vegan version with lentils instead of mince.
That's it really, it's easy. Serve with peas or broccoli and BRANSTON PICKLE (there's no alternative). Grin

Rick Stein by the way

Simplest we do is fry off the lamb mince, chuck it in a dish with a can of sweet corn, jar of carrots and peas and some mushrooms, pour over lamb gravy and mix it all up. Top with mashed potato and some grated cheese and bake for 25 minutes. Takes minutes to prepare and is really tasty!

Bleh, I hate shepherd's pie made with tomatoes - it should be a delicious gravy, not Italian style ragu.

Singlebutmarried · 05/12/2018 18:50

I just made one from a Gousto box. It had onion marmalade, tomato paste and Worcester sauce type stuff (Henderson’s???) in with the beef stock and made a lush gravy.

Fry onions and beef. Add mixed herbs, beef gravy, carrots, peas and a big dollop of tomato puree which gives it a good richness. I run a fork over the mash to make grooves and put some butter over the top for crunchiness. Serve with buttered crusty bread.

Comfort food to die for Smile.

Delia!

RoboticSealpup · 05/12/2018 19:36

It doesn't exist. Lamb mince is the most disgusting thing in the world.

Actual genius. I'm trying this tomorrow.

MamaBearThius · 05/12/2018 19:38

As long as it's served red hot with ice cold pickled beetroot on the side!

Oldraver · 05/12/2018 19:43

Beef mince does NOT make a Shepherds Pie...

The best is with leftover lamb joint. Chop it up, add carotts and lamb gravy Top with mash potato.

I made an amazing one the other week and added leftover onion sauce to the mash instead of butter/milk
