to feel work are making it impossible for me to stay?

3m ago i applied for a job.
It is an office job and the advert said 'working out of various locations'.
I attended on my double crutches (i have skeletal issues that will likely mean a wheelchair eventually) and explained I could only work in the office closest to me (about 15m). They agreed that would be fine.

So, i started work. But the office has stairs. Open plan office and kitchen upstairs, individual rooms and disabled toilet down stairs.
2m later, after an Occ Health assess said i should use a downstairs room, they are making me use the upstairs room still. I asked for a desk against a wall (because I cant prop my crutches against a slippy desk edge and when they fell they rolled their eyes and said: 'oh just leave them on the floor'. They've now screwed an offcut piece of metal to my desk and told me to use that to prop them until 'access to work' assess and why have I not arranged it yet? They are making me drive 30m 1 day a week to another location and have just said i have to do 1 Saturday a month there too.

Having come off benefits to try to improve my future and taken this minimum wage apprenticeship I am reluctant to give up as it would mean going back on Universal Credit. But the conditions are making me ill. None of this was made clear at interview. I got my contract 2 weeks ago and it is all 'work out of any location at service requirement'. If i sign it and i can't do it they can fire me. I guess they can fire me upto 2 years anyway (I am on 6m probation)

Is there anything i can do?

Oh dear sounds awful

Not very much you can do though. The job required you to work from different locations. If you can't do this then they will probably end your probation Sad

Are you Registered disabled? Do you have a union?

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 05/12/2018 18:23

I don't think the 2 year thing applies in the case of disability discrimination though. If they offered you that role knowing your disabilities and have moved the goal posts and not made reasonable adjustment, you do have recourse.

ARoomSomewhere · 05/12/2018 18:27

I am registered yes. not in a Union atm.

I said quite clearly at the interview. I asked if it was an issue and they said No. Now they are changing the goalposts and denying it :(

My manager has even brought her dog in a few times and let it run loose. It's a lovely thing but I'm scared I'll fall over it.

Maybe i m paranoid as mine is the only name/pic not up on the notice board and i'm the only trainee thats not been given a key but i just feel they dont want me there.

Start applying now for other jobs. Yes they can’t fire you because of your disability , but you don’t want to work in a place that treats you like that.

Tell any prospective employer that you are looking for another job because your current ones involves too much travel. Nothing else.

thanks.

there is no sick pay but statutory (how much is that does anyone know) and if its going to make me sick and i'm having time off and disciplinary it will be a problem

Statutory Sick pay is 92.05 per week (yes folks less than min wage) and you will have to wait for 3 days at zero before getting it - if off for less than 3 days you won't get paid at all. This place doesn't sound like a great employer.

Is there any chance you could get a wheelchair now? It will definitely make work take your accessibility issues more seriously.
