Can someone look after my child for less than 2 hours a week for financial reward without being registered as a childminder?

I think you need to post this in a different section.

ExFury · 05/12/2018 17:21

How old is your child?

RadioGagga · 05/12/2018 17:23

4 and 7

Officially, probably not.
Unofficially- happens all the time.

RatherBeRiding · 05/12/2018 17:23

Isn't that what babysitters do? Who obviously aren't child-minders.

RadioGagga · 05/12/2018 17:26

Rather be yes exactly. I'm just wanting a friend to drop my kids at school one morning a week for a bit of extra cash and helps me out.

Yes they can. Our school after school club runs on exactly that basis. It's totally legal and above board

arethereanyleftatall · 05/12/2018 17:32

Oh yeah, duh, ignore my post!! Babysitters, of course!

anniehm · 05/12/2018 17:40

In your home and walking them to/from school no problem. In their home technically no but it does happen all the time - it's only really a major issue if she's claiming benefits and this puts her over her maximum earnings per week. An alternative is a supermarket gift card, though cash is hard to trace anyway.

Di11y · 05/12/2018 17:50

yes - Ofsted requirements are registration if over 2 hours. obviously if not declaring income that's their problem.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 05/12/2018 17:56

Yes. 2 hours is the cut off.

ErictheGuineaPig · 05/12/2018 18:12

It's fine if she has them in her own home too as long as she doesn't break the 2 hour rule.

RadioGagga · 05/12/2018 18:14

Ok thanks

That's interesting. So, the thousands of teenagers who babysit all evening up and down the country, like lots of us probably did, are all illegal?

themoomoo · 06/12/2018 08:20

in your own home there are no rules about this. In someone else's home, 2 hours is the cut off.

Yura · 06/12/2018 08:23

babysitting is fine - its not in their own home!

arethereanyleftatall · 06/12/2018 08:57

Ah, I see. Thank you.
