AIBU?

To think that nobody cooks breakfast every day?

It's kind of in my "ain't nobody got time for that" category but equally I wish I had the energy to cook breakfast every day

My kids are rubbish with continental breakfast (not big fans of cereal, toast, etc. Unless it's just chocolate covered cereal bars) but will wolf down eggs, bacon, sausage, beans and hash browns if given the opportunity.

AIBU to refuse to get up early and cook them the food they actually like? If you do make the effort do you think it benefits you and your family?
Weekend treat or daily fare?

Tia

I do but it's quick and simple poached eggs with avocado on toast.

I do! I eat keto/low carb so no cereal in our house, I usually have an omlette unless I'm fasting, it takes 2 minutes from start to finish!

I had mine cooking their own breakfast from the age of about 7 (using the microwave is easy) and they generally have something cooked daily. I microwave leftovers for breakfast most days.

You could cook bacon or sausage the night before then put in Tupperware in fridge once cooled.Put in microwave in morning

Another low carber here - breakfast is either bacon and eggs, or smoked cod/haddock and eggs, or smoked salmon and eggs, or curried mushrooms, or sometimes a slice of crustless quiche - and for a slightly carbier treat, black pudding and grilled tomatoes.

You can get bacon without nitrites - Naked Bacon it's called. Sainsbury's do it (ham too).

We have a cooked breakfast every day of the week, except for around Christmas time when there’s so much rich food on the go that we have muesli or mini pastries instead. Every day we have either porridge, eggs on toast, beans on toast w cheese, veggie omelet, or pancakes with fruit and cream. I think it just starts the children off nicely for the day, who knows how much they eat at school, and how processed it all is. No way on earth would I pack my kids off for the day on a bowl of coco pops.

You can use a muffin tin and crack an egg in each cup with cheese and veggies and meat then bake and freeze them to be reheated in the microwave. Whole grain toast or a bagel and peanut butter would be filling.

My son gets porridge everyday and has for years. Now my children have hit high school they were getting exhausted and protein in the morning is helpful so they also get cooked eggs.

@WinterfellWench what's so different about cooking Quorn sausages to meat sausages? Absolutely nothing except the fact that I don't eat meat so wouldn't have the latter Hmm

I put the Quorn sausages in a ramekin with a tomato chopped in half and some asparagus and it cooks for 20 mins whilst I do something else. About 2 minutes before it's done I poach some eggs and stick them on top. Nothing special, hard or time consuming as I don't stand and watch the oven.

A poached egg on wholemeal toast takes 10 minutes go to whoa. And if I'm doing bacon as well, that's 50 seconds in the microwave. . . One extra pot in the dishwasher. But they tend to get sick of that too - kids these days, don't know they're born!

I find a bacon and egg butty goes down well, as do leftovers (like maccy cheese), and also, chicken congee, which is basically an Indonesian cross between risotto and soup.

I've just made scrambled egg on crumpet for tea. Took two mins - the eggs cooked whilst the crumpet toasted and the pan is non stick so takes a few seconds to wash up.

What about an omelette? You can mix up eggs, veg, ham, etc the night before and leave in the fridge to just plonk in a pan in the morning.

Or savoury pancakes? Cook, freeze and reheat in the morning.

I feel like a failed parent. We eat toast, cereal and juice.

So we are in the not cooking camp

It depends what time breakfast is I suppose. The thought of eating eggs at 6am makes me want to

We don't. Neither DP nor I are fans of cooked breakfast in the mornings, even on weekends. We do enjoy it in the evening occasionally though.

DS has always hated eggs and too young to have bacon/sausages every morning (21mos). He has porridge and toast. DP has cereal every single day and I either have porridge or toast.

If, when my son gets older, decides he wants eggs etc in the morning and/or my next child enjoys it (I'm pregnant again) then I'll happily make them some form of cooked breakfast in the mornings.
