AIBU?

To think that nobody cooks breakfast every day?

It's kind of in my "ain't nobody got time for that" category but equally I wish I had the energy to cook breakfast every day

My kids are rubbish with continental breakfast (not big fans of cereal, toast, etc. Unless it's just chocolate covered cereal bars) but will wolf down eggs, bacon, sausage, beans and hash browns if given the opportunity.

AIBU to refuse to get up early and cook them the food they actually like? If you do make the effort do you think it benefits you and your family?
Weekend treat or daily fare?

Tia

Its a breakfast thread not a grammar thread. Why ridicule others choice of words?

In my house, dippy egg is soft boiled and boiled egg is hard boiled. The expression has been used for generations, it's not a new thing. Did you mean to be so rude?

Toasted pitta with feta, salad hommous etc is filling and quick

'Dippy eggs' and 'picky bits' both make my teeth itch.

And no I DON'T cook breakfast. It's OK if you don't have to go out to work, and have little else to do, but some people don't have the time to do it.

I can't believe some people are trying to make out that a cooked breakfast is just as easy to make as a bowl of cereal. Yeah right! Wink

And salmon, quorn, vegetables.. for breakfast? WTF planet are some people on? Confused Some people must have as much money to burn, as they do time!

@Dementedswan

err no..just an opinion..you know.

I didn't mention anyone's grammar either.

I don't think anyone has said its as easy as a bowl of cereal?? They have said its as easy as porridge. Oh and i do work, very antisocial shifts too.

Do scrambled eggs count? We have scrambled eggs on toast every morning. Then a yogurand an apple or banana.

@WinterfellWench

It really is easy. I'm a single mum with 2 kids and a business to run. I still manage to cook them eggs for breakfast as the minimum. Sometimes well have kippers with poached eggs but mostly scrambled egg on toast.

I do. Bacon sandwich, cheese or scrambled egg or beans on toast, or porridge. We don't like sugary things like cereal or jam on toast here.

One quorn patty costs 37.5 pence, one egg costs about 15 pence, one potato waffle costs about 10 pence, one wrap costs about 10 pence, so about 70-80 pence for breakfast, which I don't think is particularly expensive, especially given that if you will probably eat less later in the day if you have a decent breakfast.

I buy smoked salmon from Aldi, Lidl or where I see it reduced and freeze it in single serve portions, costs maybe about 50 pence per portion, if that. A couple of eggs and a slice of toast and it's still under a pound.

As for time, it's 5-10 minutes. I don't wear make up, some people spend far more than the time I spend on breakfast getting their face on every day.

My grandad used to make himself 1 slice of bacon and 1 small slice of fried bread for breakfast every morning.

I appreciate this is not relevant to your situation but your thread made me think of him and smile so thanks OP.

Cooked breakfasts often here, 3 school-age DC. Porridge, fried egg on toast, scrambled egg on toast, baked beans and cheese in wholemeal wraps, today it was homemade crepes with choc spread! Rarely bacon or sausages on school days due to time. Boiled eggs. Trying to limit cereal and offer more protein at breakfast time. Also often fruit alongside, eg a handful of grapes. Sometimes homemade cake - eg banana loaf toasted and buttered. Sometimes bagels with cream cheese. Sometimes homemade granola (v low sugar) and yogurt.

We do scrambled eggs in a non stick pan. Bit of butter, crack the eggs straight in, mix it round, done in less than a minute.
Sometimes have with smoked salmon

I never cook breakfasts. Mine can have cereal and fruit which they put together themselves (youngest is 16) and toast if they want it. That's how it has always been here and how it will stay, although I sometimes do poached or boiled eggs for breakfast at weekends if anyone wants them.

I cook in the evenings and rarely at any other time.

I never put butter in with my scrambled eggs..just crack 'em straight into a pan with some milk and stir.

Does the butter add to the flavour?

@DavetheCat2001

I think they taste richer with butter... But we really don't need it! Just a little indulgence though!

Sounds lovely! I always fry my omlettes in butter so will try this next time 👍

I have a electric egg cooker which makes like easier. The children make eggs and soldiers it's so easy.

Report

We do scrambled eggs or porridge in the microwave, both take about the amount of time and only dirty one bowl.

Through winter I make a slow cooker of chicken and vegetable soup every week - it's like a bowl of veg, my children love that for breakfast and lunch most days.

Ds2 likes cheesy beans for breakfast, with or without toast and / or cooked meats. I sometimes hard boil half a dozen eggs and then keep them in the fridge to eat whenever. I like the look of the egg casserole thing upthread as well. I can’t face actual cooking in the morning though.

We eat a lot of porridge with almond or oat milk, chopped nuts, dried fruit, banana or apple, a little bit of honey and loads of cinnamon. Works well as overnight oats too which requires no effort in the morning! We’re also big fans of eggs and they really are very easy and quick. I like rye bread with them (in any form!) personally.

I try to avoid sugary cereals or white bread as I’m hungry again an hour later!

If you count cooking breakfast as making porridge on the hob, then I cook breakfast every day!!

It's nice to have a full cooked breakfast on Sundays though. A big cooked breakfast doubles up as breakfast and lunch at the same time..

Make egg and cheese breakfast muffins with chopped tomato, mushroom, spring onion etc and freeze them. Bung them in the microwave as and when, they cook from frozen in a couple of minutes.

In answer to the OP, I rarely cook breakfast - personally I don't eat it. The school mornings I don't work, kids have porridge with fruit or honey. Weekends I'll sometimes cook them brunch of egg and beans or pancakes.

We only do a cooked breakfast on Saturday morning. Way too much faff in the week.
