How do you work with liars?

How do you work with someone who you know has repeatedly lied to your face (and to other colleagues)? Someone who has so little regard for you that they make up lies to serve their own purpose?

I'm thinking of insisting that all communication with this person is done via email only so I have written proof of what they are telling me, because I genuinely don't trust them not to stab me in the back. I'm supposed to be supporting this person now as they have had a promotion into a team I work with.

Am I being unreasonable? Am I being overly sensitive? I've genuinely never worked with someone who I distrust so completely before so I don't know how to approach this in a way that is professional, but protects me from getting fucked over.

Avoid as much as possible and get everything in writing. Also Id draw my bosses ateention to it - not in a "x is lying" way more "on xx/xx/xx he said "do this" is that right? Or "Im confused - first this was said, now its changed". Draw attention to the inconsistency without becoming confrontational.

Bear in mind too that emails in email chains can be deleted : so make sure you save all their emails.

yep, for this very reason I do 90% of my communication at work via email, and most phone calls get followed up with a "just to confirm...." email too.

not unreasonable at all I don't think!
