I have just read forty pages of thread and it’s almost full! Let us congregate here for answers!

coolwalking

Let it go.

Even if you get it right they won't tell you.

LoveAScaryTaleMe · 06/12/2018 07:26

But the OP has never mentioned any exchange after......."and he walked up the post office steps." Apparently the riddle ended there, so what is said afterward is irrelevant surely. However I would think that instead of the listener saying I know him as Well, the teller would end with "You may know him as well(Well)."

coolwalking · 06/12/2018 07:26

@boneybackjefferson lol you're right. I was bored earlier and as I am in a different time zone thought I would have a stab at it. The most frustrating thing is people saying 'there is no answer or solution or joke'

Going to observe for a bit.....

dogzdinner · 06/12/2018 07:26

Cool walking - the content of the 'joke' isn't important. The OPs friend said that. It's the interaction you have with the joke teller - which we obviously didn't get given on an online forum.

coolwalking · 06/12/2018 07:29

Thats why my solution works

I know him as Well

Dunnapoo · 06/12/2018 07:30

I think I know.......

....him as well

MissionItsPossible · 06/12/2018 07:31

As if people are still bothering with this attention seeking, even after the original OP claims they now know the answer “but can’t tell anyone”.

Dunnapoo · 06/12/2018 07:32

@coolwalking

Know him as well works with the I think i know in front

coolwalking · 06/12/2018 07:33

@DUNNAPOO yes it does but the simpler the sentence the more effective it is.

Lol said I was observing for a bit........

BoswellAndNotAndAFox · 06/12/2018 07:34

I'm another vote for "I can't tell you," then, but it's sort of like when I vote for the Greens. Sad

Except OP COULD say "The answer is 'I can't tell you'"…

TinselBee · 06/12/2018 07:35

Oh I love that solution. "I think I know him as well"

Think I'll take that and hopefully stay away from this thread

Dunnapoo · 06/12/2018 07:36

But that’s the joke as all you need to say is

I think I know....

Then you can have you secret little smug smile

coolwalking · 06/12/2018 07:39

@dunnapoo the joke is that 'as well' has a double meaning.

Don't over think it

I know him as Well

Dunnapoo · 06/12/2018 07:45

@coolwalking

Thanks for the insight. Obvs

Dairyqueen2 · 06/12/2018 08:03

Please someone help me get off this thread ... I've been on it from Day 1 and keep refreshing Blush. Round and round it goes with people who haven't RTFT talking again and again about their epiphanies with Andy and for/four. It's like a metaphor for the pointlessness of life. Waiting for Boswell .....

CasanovaFrankenstein · 06/12/2018 08:06

Maybe you have to tell someone once you ‘get it’ or after 7 days Boswell comes out of your screen and kills you.

HungryForSnacks · 06/12/2018 08:15

I'm calling bullshit on this.

OP has been trying to work this out for 20 years and then miraculously figures it out two days after posting on MN but won't tell us the answer?

Right....

IknowTheBoswellJoke · 06/12/2018 08:21

When people are saying 'I can't tell you', it's a statement of the fact that there IS NO ANSWER, they know this, and have therefore 'got it', and you can't give something you don't have.
That's the whole 'joke'.
I can't tell you the answer because I know that it doesn't exist. I have escaped the trap of asking for it. I can't ask for a thing that does not exist. Once you stop asking, you have won.

Talith · 06/12/2018 08:21

She said it was after reading this thread where several posters had, according to her, solved it by page 8.

The only solution which popped up more than once is the one I flagged up on the last page.

coolwalking · 06/12/2018 08:23

The OP must have thought for 20 years that it was bullshit.

She has already said there is something to 'get'.

IknowTheBoswellJoke · 06/12/2018 08:26

I agree with op about having to work it out for yourself though, untill you have that epiphany, you are still in the stage of 'asking' and you won't work it out.

pinkdelight · 06/12/2018 08:27

"Maybe you have to tell someone once you ‘get it’ or after 7 days Boswell comes out of your screen and kills you."

I love this.

HungryForSnacks · 06/12/2018 08:28

Right, several posters had solved it but she can't say who? How come?

Talith · 06/12/2018 08:31

I reckon the family have asked not to spill the beans on a long running joke. As I said she's dropping massive clues with the way she signs off on page 8. And as I said there isn't "an answer" as such so porcupines and others interpretation works although I believe this is as corollary because it's the way it's said which is the relevant part and the "payoff".

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 06/12/2018 08:35

Has this hit the papers yet?

And really, telling a bunch of strangers on MN is hardly gonna destroy a family "joke" since we don't even know who they are.

I hope Boswell has a nice life.
