@killingtime9198 waiting patiently. Haven't slept in 36hrs. Took a break from rocking back and forth in a corner repeating "Boswell,Bos,Post Office" to post this. Please update us.

But, do you remember in the beginning when we were still naive and innocently believing we were solving a riddle the OP said her other friend had 'got' half of the riddle and the mum told her she was nearly there? Then she apparently solved it. How could she have nearly solved it when there is nothing to solve? 😭🤯

It's not a riddle or a joke to find an answer to! There isn't a question!

My response, if someone just blurted this out to me, would be "oh, right. Fair enough" whilst thinking the person who told me it was havering.

What answer? There's no question or suggestion in the "riddle" that there is anything more to it.

Why can no one who has figured it out answer the question, "is it that there is no answer" with a simple yes or no?

I'm not sure the OP was being entirely truthful a lot of the time.

Most of us have been puzzling over this for the last couple of days. There is NO WAY OP would have let it go for 20 years, without killing nagging her friend. That's why I don't believe a word of it 🙄

@KittensAndChristmasCake - oh, you are still somehow solving or 'getting' the riddle/puzzle/joke (not)

you solve it in the sense that you find a solution that 'works' with the logic of the riddle.

I don't know how else to explain it........

There is no answer to the "Boswell Joke" (as in the pointless story) but there is an answer to the entire holistic riddle. And that answer is wrong if told, but right if not told. So if you want the right answer just think of something that seems right to you, declare it as the right answer and go to bed.

Why was the OP to be told the answer on her wedding day?

The joke is that 'bosfucksoffanddoesashitorwhatever' is what he is called for short....which is much longer than Boswell!

Your only in on the joke if you state it is a dead end...

Forget the name, forget the place... Or male female...

A person walks up the steps or too the library or even to the shop...

The joke leaves him there in front of the door but just left there... Just like you have been all left there.

If you get the joke the you are no longer left in limbo... So can't be told the answer as you already have the answer because you know there is no answer...

You can do a lot of damage with a paintbrush if shoved in the right place.
