Been engaged for 4 years now and finally about to start wedding planning, we wanted to buy a house first, I have no idea where to start, not sure about how much a wedding will cost to be honest, so wondering how much everyone spent ? I know it’ll differ for each person but just curious Grin

About £6k. We got married in our church, and paid for the bells and whistles - choir, organist, heating etc as well as the necessary legal bits. Reception in the church hall to be informal. Handmade decorations. Ordered in a caterer for ease. Brought our drinks wholesale and made it a help yourself affair.
Absolutely perfect. We kept it low key like we wanted, but splashed out where we liked - real flowers (if I can't splash out in them for my wedding, when can I??), Caterer to put on a BBQ (because it was easier), all the extras in the church (our choice, the people in the choir etc are our community and friends).
Each to their own.

It depends what is important to you and how much money you have. It can cost as little as the registrar/officiant to marry you and as much a you can throw at it.
We got married in our local
Registry office, which cost peanuts. then a small meal for our closest family which cost a couple of hundred.

About £9k five years ago. At a nice country venue. 75 guests all day - three course meal, evening buffet and wine, no free bar. Included all outfits (including groomsmen and bridesmaids etc) and a weekend away afterwards as a mini honeymoon.

We booked and planned in six months so got ‘last minute’ deals and got married on a Sunday which made a difference on price too.

MrsPerfect12 · 04/12/2018 18:32

Just under 24k

Laska2Meryls · 04/12/2018 18:34

Less than £1100 (and probably £600 of that was Dh's suit!as he went a bit mad). I got my dress (a perfectly lovely brand new silk Monsoon dress) for £75 from ebay and we had registry office and catered ourselves ( posh food and lots of wine ) with a party in the back garden ..

It was July and a lovely warm day, and went on until midnight.. several people say its was one of the nicest and most relaxed weddings they had been to .. (13yrs ago now )

Got married in 2000 and spent about £8K.

Getting married for 2nd time next year - budget is £1000 for everything and so far we are under budget.

EmUntitled · 04/12/2018 18:36

Around £6000 in 2014.

60 daytime guests, golf club venue, 3 course sit down meal. 40 additional evening guests, evening buffet and band.

We did a lot ourselves or had handy family members help us (invitations, place settings, flowers, car, cake) which saved a lot.

FairfaxAikman · 04/12/2018 18:37

About £11k but £6k of that was a full bells-and-whistles reception with a three course meal (still raved about by some guests three and a half years later) and wine. Also included chair covers, cake stand and knife, MC, bacon rolls in the evening and the honeymoon suite.
I'd have been happy with the local rugby club, but when we costed it all out it would have worked out more expensive!

ChodeofChodeHall · 04/12/2018 18:38

About £100 (we eloped)

CaptainShark · 04/12/2018 18:39

About 4000, unexpected circumstances meant the wedding had to be moved forward 18 months. Lovely church wedding, 1 bridesmaid 1 groomsman. No flowers (the church were lovely and put up some faux flowers for us) winter wedding. My dress was in a sale and not really my taste. Venue was a slightly tacky lodge, with a buffet that didn't quite stretch to feed everyone properly (80 guests... Big families on both sides) no drinks Inc, no canapés. Evening party with hot buffet and dj was OK.
Im all for not spending an absolute fortune but if you want to save some money really think about how it will impact your day. I am mortified about my wedding now and wish we'd have been in a better financial position to make it a better day, I still can't bring myself to look at the pictures without getting sad, first world problem I know. Good luck with your wedding.

ThePinkOcelot · 04/12/2018 18:39

It was between £3.5 - 4K. Had a lovely day.

1stTimeMama · 04/12/2018 18:40

I think it was around £6500, 3 years ago.

LavenderBush · 04/12/2018 18:42

£5K, but that was 15 years ago.

In retrospect, we should probably have hired a hall or marquee and got caterers etc separately, rather than going for a hotel/restaurant reception. The more fun weddings I've been to have tended to have more of a DIY element. Cheaper for the booze, too.

hidinginthenightgarden · 04/12/2018 18:43

9k. 5 years ago in a masons building. Ceremony outside, full wedding breakfast, band in the evening. 60 day guests and 90 evening.
Our venue was all inclusive at 3.5k though. I think now that alone is at least 7k.

Nodancingshoes · 04/12/2018 18:43

About £5000 - it was 13 years ago and abroad (European destination)

MsSquiz · 04/12/2018 18:45

Ours cost £35k, July 2017

medusa83 · 04/12/2018 18:45

This is really interesting. Although unrepresentative, it has made me think that perhaps all "the average cost of a wedding is £20k" type studies are artifically inflated to encourage people to splurge.

We also spent £6k. £5k on reception drink and food and £1k on the rest.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 04/12/2018 18:48

We had a white church wedding then meal and reception in a smart hotel. We kept the cost down by getting married at 3.30pm then by the time photos had been done etc we got to reception for 5 then ate at 6 meaning no evening buffet needed (no separate evening guests) was around 4k

Makido · 04/12/2018 18:53

Under £200 last January. Weekday morning registry office ceremony with 2 witnesses and the DCs. Lunch with family at in-laws house. We were bought a night at a local spa hotel as a gift for our wedding night, with a lovely dinner and a massage.

It was an absolutely perfect day, I feel so happy every time I think about it. We've been together 12 years and didn't feel the need for anything more.

JontyDoggle37 · 04/12/2018 18:56

Ours cost £12k four years ago, full church wedding, function room with attached garden for reception so we had a BBQ for the meal, with a garden party theme through the day. We had 230 guests though so we felt it was really good value for money.

Lonelynessie · 04/12/2018 18:56

Around £40k, last July.

crispysausagerolls · 04/12/2018 18:58

120k 🤷🏻‍♀️

3WildOnes · 04/12/2018 18:59

11.5k. 3k On dry hire venue, 4k for catering and staff to man the bar, 1.5k on booze, 1k band, £500 flowers, £500 on outfits, £500 church and £500 on bus to transport guests between church and venue. I still have my spread sheet!

3WildOnes · 04/12/2018 18:59

100 guests

CleverWittyUsername · 04/12/2018 19:00

About 15k a few years ago. That included 2 long haul honeymoons though
