Been engaged for 4 years now and finally about to start wedding planning, we wanted to buy a house first, I have no idea where to start, not sure about how much a wedding will cost to be honest, so wondering how much everyone spent ? I know it’ll differ for each person but just curious Grin

£1000
It was ok but I had an 8 week baby so I was preoccupied

crispysausagerolls · 04/12/2018 19:31

3WildOnes

In short, yes! Definitely wouldn’t have been if we had paid for the alcohol ourselves!

CuppaSarahsCuppaChristmasCheer · 04/12/2018 19:33

5k for a church wedding with hotel reception for 50. We got an absolute bargain on the hotel as they had just opened their new wedding reception room. We were one of the first receptions in there! I got my dress for £100 on eBay, it was a designer gown being sold off by a boutique that was closing down. I got the flowers for about £100 too, fake ones off eBay I still have up in the kitchen. I got decorations secondhand off eBay. I bought the whole thing on eBay.

I also did a lot of wedding related comping, I won DH's wedding ring. So it's way better quality than we would have had originally.

€11k
For exclusive restaurant, incl bar til 3am 😁

WishIwas19again · 04/12/2018 19:37

£10k 10 years ago. Stupid money but we were put under quite a bit of pressure from my family to make it a big posh 'do', hotel reception for 80 people and my parents paid half towards it. Hotel with champagne reception, 3 course lunch with 2 glasses of wine and bacon sandwich for supper was £5.5k so that was the biggest expense. My dress and outfits for bridesmaids, best man and ushers were £2k, rest went on 'bits and bobs' Blush

BuffaloCauliflower · 04/12/2018 19:37

@medusa83 the numbers aren’t artificially inflated, this is just how mean averages work - high number at the top skew the data. The ‘average’ wedding is £25,000, but most will probably be less than that with some very high reported numbers pulling the average up.

I am intrigued by the super spendy one. I’m not sure I could spend that much on a wedding even if I had it! Though I’m planning mine at the moment and think it will be about £15,000 when it all comes to it, if I could spend £30,000 I would.

GimbleInTheWabe · 04/12/2018 19:38

Agreed @crispysausagerolls I want to see this £20k dress! Have you had a chance/opportunity to wear it again since?

My friend also had a very pricey wedding and it was fab. If you have the budget and you want to then why not!

crispysausagerolls · 04/12/2018 19:40

I would really love to post photos of it showing it off because of how it made me look and feel; I’m happy to PM people with it if they explain how to send! But it’s quite obvious if anyone knows me that it’s me 🙈 it was couture and took 6 fittings and was one of the best experiences of my life. My mother paid for it.

Bobbybobbins · 04/12/2018 19:41

10k for the wedding - Church, town hall reception for 130 guests with buffet; 5k for the honeymoon (3 weeks in America - SF/Hawaii/NYC)

crispysausagerolls · 04/12/2018 19:41

And no I haven’t been able to wear it again and I’m
Sure won’t be able to (unless I turn into Miss Haversham, which is tempting just so I can wear it again!)

TheChickenOfTruth · 04/12/2018 19:41

Under £5k

40 day guests, 3 course meal and wine, evening buffet and disco for 100ish. Photographers were the biggest expense - made my own flowers, got my ballgown custom made from China. Splashed out on a close-up magician for the evening reception which was amazing.

Theonewiththecat · 04/12/2018 19:44

Probably close to 15k
1k dress
Suits 1k
Champagne lake cruise 1k
Church 1k
Photographer 1k
Photo booth 1k
Wedding breakfast and evening meal (and veune) 8k
Bridesmaid dresses, and everything else probably 1k

It was an amazing day, people still talk about how good it was. It was a proper fairy tale wedding 😁

CherryPavlova · 04/12/2018 19:47

We did most of ours ourselves - flowers from a wholesalers except my bouquet and headdresses. No photographer; friends took photos. No wedding cars; we had a horse and cart coming out as a surprise but it was cart not carriage. I did catering with friends and used local teenagers as waiting staff. We had a good band and a marquee as our main expenses. Church was free. Choir was free. A friend played the organ.
Our daughters in 2020 is going to be more expensive and we’re putting about £25k aside.

hippopootamus · 04/12/2018 19:47

Thank you crispsausagerolls for indulging my curiosity! Sounds fabulous! especially the booze

LadyB49 · 04/12/2018 19:47

2005
40 guests
Registry office
Buttonholes provided instead of favours
Bus to hotel one hour away
3 course meal £18 each
One guy with guitar for music and a party £75
My dress and flowers
M and S cake
£1000
Perfect

DowntonCrabby · 04/12/2018 19:53

£6k in 2011 very small.

@crispy God I would love to be invited to a wedding on the scale yours was!! I expect we mix within very different circles though. Grin

Cassiopeia13 · 04/12/2018 20:00

This year, around 14k. We had 60 day guests, 100 evening. Was an amazing day and I'd spend the same amount again, well worth it

Youmadorwhat · 04/12/2018 20:01

About 12k all in, so exclusive use of the hotel. Registrar and ceremony fees. Dress, shoes, hair, (did my own makeup). 2 bms 2flowergirls, 4 course meal, (did my own flowers, favors, wedding singer, dj. Accommodation for the week at the hotel...Monday to thurs. wedding was on a weds, I paid for the wedding party on the night of the wedding. We had an afternoon tea party the day before so that included also. May have left out a few bits but I can’t think. That was in 2012 in the Lake District in U.K.

PlumpAndPlain · 04/12/2018 20:01

About £100 for the registrar and room. £40 ish for breakfast after and £500 for a night in a fabulous hotel - although the hotel was booked before the wedding was a thing.

DexyMidnight · 04/12/2018 20:01

Hmmm i never include rings or honeymoon in these things as they were just for us, iyswim?

We had a two say wedding (church, wedding breakfast and PLENTY of booze, band, generous bar tab but not open bar, DJ after midnight... Til 4am Grin). Next day we had a bbq and more festivities.

We went halves with my parents and spent circa 20k. (tbh i didn't keep a close tally as we were earning well and i didn't want to think about it Confused).

We prioritised booze and food over luxuries. E.g. We only spent about 400 on bouquets and buttonholes and barely had table flowers. Wanted to focus on the bits the guests would enjoy and consume.

OP i would say get your house first, there's nothing more important in my view, or do a scaled back wedding then house.

Everyone on this thread is testament to the fact that you can have a traditional wedding (if that's what you're after) for about 5k. No need to go crazy.

Youmadorwhat · 04/12/2018 20:02

Wedding party accommodations on the night of the wedding so ushers, bridesmaids etc *

DexyMidnight · 04/12/2018 20:03

Sorry to be clear i mean 10k each / 20k in total

Youmadorwhat · 04/12/2018 20:04
