Hi,

New here but not sure who I can tell this too or get advice as I dont want people to think I am being ungrateful! So obvs its christmas soon and I have found out what the OH has got me..... He said he took a risk getting this... which worried me and I then came across his list for what he has got me....

Its an electric toothbrush..... not a cheap one either. I dont know what to do because I feel really disappointed as I thought he knew me better than that... like is he trying to say something?? My teeth are fine by the way.... but seriously... an electric toothbrush...! I know my face will say it all when I open it in front of everyone... I am now dreading it and dont want to hurt his feelings.

What do I do!?

Buy him something off your list. Offer to swap after you both unwrapped.

Foxy3131988 · 04/12/2018 19:05

@paige789 we created a Christmas list for each other in our note phones, I asked if I could add to it and he said yes, clearly forgetting my "real" list as he called it was there too so I saw the first thing he got as it was ticked off, I didn't look anymore because didn't want to know what else was on the list. He also said he took a big risk with it, this makes sense as that is a big risk to get me an electric toothbrush...

Electric toothbrushes are brilliant though! I think that’s a great gift!

Lookatyourwatchnow · 04/12/2018 19:12

A risk! A risk is a good bit of jewellery in an unusual style or an adventure holiday or sky diving vouchers! Not a toothbrush.

My DP buys crap presents too.

Foxy3131988 · 04/12/2018 19:14

Thank you everyone for your responses. I'm glad it isn't just me. No I don't have a breath problem lol, o brush my teeth daily etc and use mouthwash. I also don't think he would spend so much money on one because of bad breath. He said he thinks I will like it lol... I just find it boring and I did have some hunter wellies on my list as I love walking the dog which I even out in big letters REALLY WANT. lol. They are practical and something I need and would like... God i think I am going to give more hints and if that doesn't do anything then just tell him outright... I don't have an electric toothbrush no, but if I was to get one, it would t be an expensive one lol XXX

I’m missing the point a bit but isn’t the sonicare £84.99 the heavily discounted one on amazon?

popcornwizard · 04/12/2018 19:17

I would make sure that I didn't watch Love Actually.

BertrandRussell · 04/12/2018 19:20

There’s a comedian who has a very funny routine about buying his girlfriend an electric toothbrush- and she gave him a holiday to Barbados........

Soberfutures · 04/12/2018 19:23

I found my birthday present this year. And to be far we always try and buy things we actually need rather than gifts for the sake. BUT.....he got me some sort of light emitting contraption to laser my chin hair!?haha. To be fair he us always seeing me battle with my tweezers and being rather pissed off with pcos. But omg really.

I faked happiness and googled if it was safe to use. As I know he genuinely ment well

picklemebaubles · 04/12/2018 19:23

If he's anything like DH, he saw a Black Friday bargain and had to buy it for someone.

Foxy3131988 · 04/12/2018 19:26

@mascaponeanswine its the sonicare diamond clean smart electric toothbrush which is between £200-300 depending on where from. I don't know where it is from though XX

Definitely show him the Rhod Gilbert clip - job done!

That is what I have on the advice of my dentist and periodontist. Your gums will thank you. A cheap electric toothbrush is a very very poor substitute.

Heartofglass21 · 04/12/2018 19:36

You think an electric toothbrush is bad? My DH bought me two pairs of maternity leggings from Tesco last year. I'm several years past child-bearing. And the price tags (reduced to clear) were still attached.

Now that is grounds to LTB.

Santasushi · 04/12/2018 19:41

I would be practicing my thank you face.

TranmereRover · 04/12/2018 19:50

Heartofglass21 - what on earth was the thinking behind that? surely nobody can be that careless / thoughtless??? it wasn't your only present was it? did you wrap them around his neck, quite snugly?

Foxy3131988 · 04/12/2018 19:54

Omg @heartlessglass, that really is bad! What the hell was he thinking!

Electric toothbrushes are brilliant. You will thank him. And the expensive ones are better than the cheap ones.

I thought they were silly too till I got one.

Wellies are wellies.

Theweasleytwins · 04/12/2018 20:04

My parents got me an Avengers electric toothbrush Grin think i was 25 at the time. They did ask if i wanted one though

trojanpony · 04/12/2018 20:14

sonicare is amazing and manual toothbrushes are rubbish in comparison.

Hunters are not amazing and IMHO terrible for walking.

And he’ll have bought it in Black Friday. they were heavily reduced (I got my DP’s dad one)

YANU to be disappointed however YWBU to show it you have 3 weeks to practice a Grin face also once you get on board with electric brushing you’ll wonder what you were doing for the last 20+ years

Cuttingthegrass · 04/12/2018 20:19

Hmmmm was about to buy adult children electric toothbrushes Blush

PermanentlyFrizzyHairBall · 04/12/2018 20:25

I love practical gifts but an electric toothbrush would be a step too far for me. I'm not that bothered about pressies but I can totally see why you'd be disappointed. I think I would probably go for the heavy hint dropping or buying a cheapo one and saying you kept meaning to get an electric toothbrush but were waiting for a sale to come up as it's not something worth spending a lot on.

FrederickCreeding · 04/12/2018 20:30

Tatiana Wellies are definitely not wellies!

However, I'm sad to say Hunters have really gone downhill recently. My pair is ancient and still brilliant despite daily use. But I know people who have bought them since they moved production to China say theirs last no time.

Ask for le chameau or something instead Wink

FrederickCreeding · 04/12/2018 20:34

I don't think a toothbrush is too bad though. Dh has a habit of buying me furniture or household stuff. What's worse is that he 'helpfully' gives other family members suggestions of things to buy me - more bloody garden furniture!
