To think I will never get tickets to gigs at huge venues

Have tried on seven occasions recently to get tickets at large arenas to no avail even with people who wouldn't necessarily sell out immediately. AIBU to think I have no chance: any ideas how to give myself the best chance of securing tickets?

Are you buying on the release date? Do you have 02 priority?

Justanothernameonthepage · 04/12/2018 09:04

Join the fan club? They often get early access to tickets.

Travis1 · 04/12/2018 09:05

Keep an eye out for presale and register for access normally through fanclubs or facebook is best way for that. You need to be ready to buy as soon as they g on sale. Normally a minute or two beforehand. I very very rarely don't get tickets for gigs I want.

MsJolly · 04/12/2018 09:07

I’ve always struggled with getting tickets and did join fan clubs of people I really wanted to see but it’s often the luck of the draw even when you’re pressing # refresh eleventy billion times! Though weirdly, I was busy the mornings Spice Girl tickets came out and got home around 2pm-did a bit of surfing and thought I’d check on prices and managed to get some at a fair price so who knows? Thought they’d be long gone!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 04/12/2018 09:08

I've never not been able to get tickets, what sites are you using? And who are you trying to see, maybe we can help?

SummersB · 04/12/2018 09:13

Op I’m with you. I have on many occasions not been able to get tickets, even when joining the fan priority sales etc. It’s really frustrating!

lola006 · 04/12/2018 09:40

Fan club presale, venue presale, patience, multiple devices (iPad, laptop, phone). It helps if a friend is trying elsewhere - like my friend and I were both in an online queue for Ed Sheeran when he was at the London o2 in 2017, but I was on Ticketmaster and her Amazon...she lucked out. Similarity with Take That I went via AXS, she did gigsandtours, I got the better tickets.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 04/12/2018 10:20

It's luck of the draw. You can boost your chances by using multiple devices and making sure you're on a good internet speed; but

SpoonBlender · 04/12/2018 10:43

To see the bands I'd suggest going to festivals. Tickets are easily available (except for Glasto), lots of other things on as well. You miss out on the massive stadium-class sets, but not many people do a Taylor Swiftian level of set anyway.

MidniteScribbler · 04/12/2018 10:58

I've never not seen a concert or show I wanted to go to. Presales is how I usually get mine, either through my phone company, visa presales, ticket agency presales or fan clubs. Was third row for one of my favourites last weekend buying through presale.

kmc1111 · 04/12/2018 11:13

Main thing is to be fast, you can’t waste any time checking out the seating. Know the venue, the layout for the show and the pricing beforehand, so it literally takes a second to choose.

Secondly just don’t give up. When the tickets first go up a lot of people are all attempting to buy the same seats. If you don’t get lucky and get through that part with ease, keep trying. Other people will give up and tickets will free up. You just have to be willing to be very frustrated for a hour or so.

explodingkitten · 04/12/2018 11:15

In our country you have to join the online queue about at least an hour before the selling starts, have you tried that?

thismeansnothing · 04/12/2018 11:19

Depends who it's for really but I've never had problems getting what I need.

I tend to use ticketline over seetickets and Ticketmaster as they seem to get less traffic/doesn't crash as often

Nicknamesalltaken · 04/12/2018 11:28

Spotify will sometimes give you early access for bands you like.

You have to be quick, laptop and phone ticketmaster on one, gigsandtours or whatever on the other.

Resell sites but only much, much nearer the time of the event, when people are fans and genuinely can’t go and need to resell, not touts making hundreds.

Viagogo has shocking add on costs so be careful using them. I have done out of desperation/stupidity. The ticket prices looks ok (at a push) but then they add the fees at checkout. Twickets are face value. Whatever the Ticketmaster resell site is can be decent too.

BirthdayCakes · 04/12/2018 11:29

Also register for songkick so that you know when tickets are going on sale..

NiktheGreek · 04/12/2018 12:46

I've always got tickets. Get your device set up well in time on the correct page etc. As soon as it hits opening time just keep clicking buy tickets. As a pp said keep trying as tickets get released back if not wanted. Also some ticket sites release more tickets later in the day.

Kindlethefourth · 04/12/2018 12:51

Thanks all. Hugh Jackman at Birmingham. Not an o2 customer. Would consider the o2 arena if I could get pre sale but none of us on o2!!

OP posts:
CantWaitToRetire · 04/12/2018 12:51

I usually get nothing or something high up at the back. I use O2 priority and was shocked to get some very good seats for Capitals JBB next weekend. Just a case of keep trying I guess.

HilaryBriss · 04/12/2018 12:53

I didn't think that tickets went on sale until Friday 7th?

Kindlethefourth · 04/12/2018 12:58

They don't but o2 have pre sale tomorrow

OP posts:
TeaForDad · 04/12/2018 13:00

I nearly pulled my hair out trying to buy rammstein tickets. They released 10 venues, 80000 per venue, for sale at the same time through one website.

Plenty we're already on stubhub etc before that from tout bastards

Roomarmoset · 04/12/2018 14:41

Hi Kindle
I don't know how to PM you but I have an 02 number that I don't use if you want to use it for the priority tickets tomorrow?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 04/12/2018 14:44

I was going to offer to grab you some, but I've had five sets of tickets through o2 priority recently and the last three have had my name printed all over them, I suspect they're going to get a bit funny about it and I'd feel awful if you got turned away... But you can PM me if you want to risk it; I've got a few phones on o2.

Kindlethefourth · 04/12/2018 17:08

Thanks for the kind offers but don't want to risk what will undoubtedly be a lot of money and upset to DD if there was an issue with ID. Thank you though.
