...to ask you to share your "eggs"

DS is currently going through an obsession with eggs! Real ones, chocolate ones, hatching ones, plastic ones with 'surprises' inside. I've just been organising my Christmas shopping in anticipation of starting to ship gifts out of the house, and realised just how many of his gifts are either eggs or egg related (about 50%!)

It got me thinking, what are the most random gifts your DC have asked for/received?

When my ds was younger he wanted a mobility scooter and a crow bar

LittleLlamaontheduskyroad · 05/12/2018 14:41

DD2 has asked for a "bouncing atta" today. I have no idea what this is. It's like an apple apparently? I think she's made it up!

Malaco · 05/12/2018 14:41

Mine had it about the same time and it was very popular with them

Tinty · 05/12/2018 14:57

DD asked Santa for a doorstop when she was 7, she put it on the list on Christmas EVE! because if he is real, he will be able to bring it mummy I hastily rushed to sainsburys and luckily found one. She still uses it 6 years later. Grin

silkpyjamasallday · 05/12/2018 15:01

I feel I'm a bad mother for not asking DD what she wants now Blush I've just gone ahead and bought stuff that I thought I she would like. She is 2 and obsessed with blankets/sheets, so I've got her a beautiful illustrated reversible quilt, and hopefully she will stop stealing and stashing all the blankets in the house under the toys on her bed.

HollySwift · 05/12/2018 17:08

I had to buy DS3 a plug in wax melt warmer for his birthday as he was begging for one ‘like mummy’s’ (mine uses a tea light though). He loves it and is absolutely chuffed when I let him pick out a new melt in the supermarket/garden centre Grin

DS2, aged 2/3 ish asked for ‘a dinosaur, that comes with a cave, and the dinosaur goes in and out the cave.’ It was so specific we were certain he’d seen this somewhere, or seen an advert. Seems a fairly commonplace toy right? No. No this was the most difficult request ever! I ended up buying one on eBay from the US that was cuddly. It’s still on his bed - he’s nearly 11!

BertieBotts · 05/12/2018 17:30

DS1 got a poop emoji cushion last year from my sister Grin

She bought me a weird squishy nose from Tiger. It amused her because the description of the item was simply "Body Part". Confused

anniehm · 05/12/2018 17:52

Dd wants nesting saucepans and a wooden spoon but then she is due to start university in September so not too weird

YepImafraidIchangeditagain · 05/12/2018 19:26

How funny! My middle son had an egg obsession for years. We had to get him rubber eggs because any real eggs that he came across, were played with and duly smashed! He only liked the real thing or a good replica! 🤣

drspouse · 05/12/2018 19:53

hopefully she will stop stealing and stashing all the blankets in the house under the toys on her bed.

I doubt it, my 4 year old is still obsessed with putting all the teddies under blankets. She doesn't have enough so uses muslins and if she runs out she moves on to clothes. You can tell what time she actually got to sleep by the number of clothes left in her drawers.

Squirrel26 · 05/12/2018 20:11

My brother once asked for a 'fete table'. Eventually it was established that he meant an actual table, like one might use at a village fete to hold the tombola. We were having some building work done at the time so our parents got the builder to make a table out of some spare bits of wood. It was in his room for years and we used to refer to it as the 'fete table' which obviously confused everyone who came round as that's not an actual thing Grin.

He's 30 now. I asked him the other day what he wanted for Christmas. He said 'a sofa'. Hmm

AWhistlingWoman · 05/12/2018 20:19

DS1 asked for his own wallet and bank cards when he was about three!

He then asked for a ‘shaveyard’ - finally figured out he wanted a graveyard. To bury some bodies in. That was not a Christmas present request I could have foreseen Confused

SleightOfMind · 05/12/2018 20:27

DD (9) has:
Handkerchiefs, with lace and her initials on.
A guitar
Green velvet shoes

DT1 (3)
A good net
A tank for creatures
A book with pictures of ALL the spiders

DT2
‘Tick’ socks
‘Tick’ hat
Blu tac

Worked out that ‘tick’ means Nike.

Teen just wants his phone screen fixed.
Not wishing their childhood away or anything....

One year my nephew asked for tomato soup, and my mum bought it for him. He was overjoyed!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 05/12/2018 20:55

And apparently some of you also need to know that you need to get in early to subvert the power of tv ads - lots of eye rolling and/or derisive laughter, and comments about people only needing to advertise things that weren't very good - and at some point, seriously, deliver a short lecture on the pitfalls of loans. Those ads can be a learning opportunity!

Which probably explains why I wasn't allowed to watch ITV as a child!

I'll never forget a friend of mine had a little one about 2-3 and he asked and asked for a wok. A wok?! she took him to ikea and he didn't like any woks, none in china town either. They were all too hot apparently. After weeks of us trying to figure it out I asked why the ones he had seen where too hot.....he reply was " Too hot to wok the baby".

He wanted a swinging dolls crib! Grin

Arrowfanatic · 08/12/2018 12:25

My daughter for her 6th birthday asked for children's scissors, a notepad and blu tac Xmas Grin

lionlaw · 08/12/2018 19:19

My DS, aged 4, asked for tights and a skirt so he could be one of the girls in his reception class. Not pretend or like, just be. I got them for him and he was very happy being her, on and off, for about 6 months.

Katr673 · 08/12/2018 22:45

She my daughter was 2 and a half she asked for a scooter and a puddle.

Katr673 · 08/12/2018 22:45

Sorry meant when

Amibeingnaive · 09/12/2018 00:04

My DS once asked for a 'mouse on wheels with its tongue sticking out' (c. age 3). Apparently he saw it in a dream (helpful). The only thing that filled the brief was a cat toy. He was delighted with it.

My DD has asked for 'a timer' this year. Turns out this is to hold me to account when I say I'll do something 'in five minutes'. I'm quite impressed, but obviously Santa isn't going to throw me under a bus....

Not quite the same, but one birthday (my 6th, I believe), I asked for a cake with 'King Kong and naked ladies'. God love my mum, she made it, though the ladies were clad in bikinis.

Kids are weird.

frankie001 · 09/12/2018 00:18

My niece, when she was 3 asked for her own jar of mayonnaise. Auntie Frankie provided, though it didn’t last into new year!

Ambernectarine · 09/12/2018 00:23

I'd forgotten the quest for a toy roadsweeper. DS was obsessed by them (and level crossings). Surprisingly hard to find.

He also wanted a high-visibility vest when he was four, which was slightly strange, but then I specifically asked for a tin of kidney beans at the same age, so I'm not one to judge.

Ambernectarine · 09/12/2018 00:41

The mentions of Blu Tac are cracking me up, because it's banned in this house, such is the dissension a nugget of it can incite. Why is it so precious?
