I've read many messages re safety of doing Forward Rolls & Backward Rolls and the injuries that have happened to children doing them.
Please look at this video made and demonstrated by experts who are frequently put into the position of having to do these skilfully and safely to protect their necks at high speed> The demonstration is slow at first and starts at 45 secs in.
IMHO this method is more precise, less stressful and safer for the child or adult concerned.
IMO I think the traditional forward roll id not to be recommended but it's just my thoughts
