Complacency amongst advantaged pupils

Hey,

There's been lost of research about low aspirations and disadvantaged pupils. Do you think there's a link between more advantaged pupils being a bit complacent and lazy- they've got it all, so why try hard? How do you motivate such children? Frustrated mum!

I taught at a school like this. This is going to sound harsh so with a caveat that I loved my classes...definitely a link. Also tbh - disrespectful to others was an issue - I had a five year old once tell me that I was 'only a teacher'

Less praise. Lots of God's gift children get little genuine praise and so its starts to be less meaningful.
Mixing with less fortunate.
Earning rewards for genuine (hard to achieve) reasons.
Talking to other adults e.g. TA to ensure consistency of the tough love and checking in on progress.

Very tricky to balance but along with no nonsense approach from school...
